Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents here

I agree with what you did completely. Fighting is totally stupid, it doesn't solve anything and it just makes people want to retaliate.

I've done jail time in Maricopa County's Tent City and I can tell you it sucks ***. For assault, the sentence is typically 30 - 90 days. If you did what someone suggested and kept a bat in your car (and used it), you'd be looking at a lot more time. Having street cred or pride is for poor or uneducated people, just walk away

So if the other guy walk out of the car w/ his bare knuckles and you bring your bat w/ you..more than likely, you just throw away all the justfiable cause for your action..

If you think about it, he gave you a kindly lesson for anything like this in the future:

Virtually all people, before they attack, have to take some time to work up to it, even those who've planned an ambush; it's the way the average human mind works. We all are average, unless we've been in some or many of these situations.

In this case, as in most scenarios, he positioned himself in front of you, then made a small move. Slapping is not true aggression, it's testing his safety, not compromising yours. This was his unintended lesson to you.

When you see this in the future, just as he moves, put you finger in his eye as fast as you can. Practice this, many times. Don't do this with enough force to maim (that's a guaranteed prison sentence), but enough to stop him. Then hit him a solid punch in the nose; here you can put as much force as you can in the act. This is street fighting basics. He will be blinded by shock, possibly more than the pain involved (people don't register pain until later, so shock is important).

Dropping him, one on one, is fair combat in CA. His friends will recognize this instinctively, and may not risk jumping you in a group. Doesn't mean they won't still try to jump you, but it will buy you time if they do, because very few groups practice a mass attack.

Don't thank me, but do only use this when you've been unjustly confronted.

Glad the OP is ok.

Wow this thread is a joke. Not what happened to OP but what people are recommending. Carry a bat in your car? That's a concealed weapon and if you smack someone you're most likely going to get charged with assault with a deadly weapon. If an altercation happens and you go get that stupid bat to defend yourself guess what you're still going to go to jail because if you had the time to get that weapon (bat) you had the time to escape the "mugging".

What I would recommend is just hit the punching bag learn to use your strength and accuracy and you are good to go. Next time something like that happens you will be ready and knock them out.

The face = Damage
The chin/jaw = knock out
What people don't realize is what a punch really is. When someone get's punched their head jolts back causing their brain to hit their back of the cranium (skull) then as the head jolts forwards the brain it's the front of the cranium (skull) causing dizziness. If you hit someone in the nose the nose will take most of that impact and will not/semi cause the daze or knockout. But hit someone on the chin or jaw line (which is bone) will not take impact and will cause the head to jolt. A good clean shot = TKO Sometimes in worse scenarios the human adrenalin powers the body soo much that a shot = head trauma or even death.

It's always good to avoid a fight but sometimes you can't avoid it and it's time to defend yourself.

Also before going to the cops it's also best to know who those people really are because as Tupac said "Revenge is the sweetest joy next to getting p***y".

Not trying to act like a tough guy but this is truth.

Good luck and stay safe.

right i forgot how it works a friend was telling me. if they use their fists you can defind with fists, and if they bring a bat you can bring a bat, etc.

I might have came off as I am promoting fighting but I am not. My previous post was about how to knock someone out or temporarily daze them to be able to avoid further altercation. Further altercation might leave to deadly weapons being pulled out including knives and guns. In the years of my training I have to say 100% that a knife is much deadlier than a handgun in altercations because due to the fact of close combat and I'm sure most agree. IMO a baseball bat is more useless than fists.

Everyone should learn how to defend themselves and at the same time should learn how to walk away. Walking away doesn't make you less of a man but sometimes you don't have the option to walk away and you must know the techniques to put a person down physically.

The only time one should use physical force is when his or her life is threatened. Once the person is down you must walk away from the altercation.

With all this at hand a simple choke could have been stopped with a headbut. A lot of people headbut wrong. They take their head back and bring it forward as if they are going to use their forehead. All your opponent has to do is duck his or her head down and your just slammed your nose on your opponents head. The correct procedure is down then up, sort of like a bull. Next time you are being chocked and you feel your life is in danger a slight headbut will daze your attacker and you will be able to escape.

If I get jumped and it stops and I get up and retaliate then it's no longer self defense. Also there are extent of damage. Obviously if your attacker in on the ground and you beat him to a bloody pulp you're going to jail.

Some guy get's robbed at gunpoint (at his store) and he shoots the robber and kills him. The family turns around and sues and they settle out of court for 50k. You tell me how that works??

It's an amazing world we live in

Just going to state the obvious, but Tupac was murdered, I don't think that he's a good example of what you should do

The OP did the right thing. Who the F starts a fight at In-N-Out? I'd be way into eating my double-double Well, now I know where I'm going for lunch!

I agree with you Mr. Clifton but they tried to choke the OP because of his car. Now the OP went to the cops, you don't think they will retaliate much harder this time?

I don't think going to the cops is the right thing to do. These guys sound like punks, lowlifes that have nothing better to do than to start trouble with someone who drives a fancier car than them. Their name being tainted will cause more problems for our OP.

Edit

My tupac comment wasn't advertised as going and getting revenge on the OP's end. It was explaining the above.

It's a burger joint, it's really good... sorta 50's style with a small inside area and a big patio for eating outside. I think they're only in California and Arizona

This is what I mean. We all know how these little crews are. They just keep coming and coming. This is why I said filing a police report isn't a great idea. Whatever you do just be careful.

Regardless of any potential missing facts, the OP is handling this very well and mature for a 19 year old.

I don't live down there so I am unsure of the demographics and social settings but some of the posters in this thread are just trolling.
