Anyone feel that our nav systems feel a bit dated?
Is 2011 getting a new upgraded COMAND interface?
Has anyone heard if we 08-10s will be able to upgrade?
I love my C300 but I do feel like the electronics are definitely a few years behind everyone else. IE my mother just bought a 2010 Nissan and its electronics and navigation system are better in many ways.
Its true that the 2010s are better (at least one in an 2010 E350 seemed better than mine). But still seem a bit dated compared to other cars IMO
What are your guys feelings on this?

I definitely agree the W204 Nav/audio system could use an upgrade. About the only thing the MB system does better than my previous car, 2005 Acura TL is that it plays DVD movies. Other than that, IMHO the nav and audio interfaces are inferior to what my TL had 5 yrs ago, even worse compared to today's offerings from other manufacturers.

I find that as well in MB's. I love the W204 but if we were to break it down dollar for dollar, we're paying more the prestige of the overall package. Technology is lacking, power is lacking, features is lacking and despite all this, it's still a great car, and that's why we bought it I guess!

I rarely use my navi system. Iphone works much better. The streets do not show unless one is zoomed in all the way. Also finding palces is a pain and many do not appear on the screen. Evertime in search a place on the map of the iphone it appears complete with address, telephone info and website address. Maybe I don't kn ow how to use my system properly.

It's just MB old school thinking. Even when you look at the BMW website with all their flash videos showcasing their cars... it's just more in tune with today's technology. It's kinda making me appreciate MB a little bit more but eventually I'll probably move on to a BMW for a different experience.

I'm glad I am not the only one. I saw a video of the new BMW 5 series and it can do google searches and stuff? It connects to the internet and other crazy stuff.
I know Mercedes used to be for the older crowd but I think they are starting to go for a younger crowd now with the looks and HP of the new cars. Mercedes needs to step up their game in terms of the in car electronics and navigation IMO.
MB are you listening?

For my country (Romania) Mercedes NAV system is a joke, while IGO map has even the backyard alleys.
In my home town (Constanta) knows about 5 major streets.

If you're asking specifically about the navigation (as in the thread title) then I think that the sole fact that it is NOT touchscreen makes it outdated. Considering though that the screen is rather highly mounted, I'm not sure that it's very ergonomic to make it a touchscreen in the current location. However, I did not get navigation in my car ($3000 MM package or $200 Garmin... hmm) so I don't know about how outdated the operation and routing may or may not be.
(emphasis mine)
On the other hand, if you're asking about electronics in general then I think the base audio system is actually quite advanced compared to other non-nav base audio systems. Right now I can't even think of another car that has a non-nav base system with a 5" screen and a scroll wheel. You don't get iDrive without navigation, for example. Most other systems make you choose stations, presets, discs, and track numbers either with physical buttons labeled with only a number or with the seek buttons that are okay on a 12-track CD but not so helpful when you want to scroll through 200 Sirius channels. I like being able to quickly scroll through an actual list and choose stations, presets, discs, and CD tracks all by NAME rather than meaningless numbers.
The Bluetooth is great too because I can scroll through every single one of my contacts and dial them by name without touching the phone. Granted my representative sample is not very extensive, but I actually haven't been in any other car with or without navigation that has a better Bluetooth interface than my non-nav C class. Certainly not my parents' Acura. That Bluetooth system is so horrid that it's useless for anything but receiving a call. Dialing... forget about it. Just pull the phone out of your pocket and dial from the phone.
