Any iPhone doesn't support V-Cards (original, 3g, 3gs, and 4). In order to transfer contacts you must use a different phone (such as a blackberry) to do so by switching the sim card. Or in the iPhone 4 case, since hte sim is microsim (gay), I just synced the iPhone to my computer (laptop) and synced the contacts. And then I used the V-Card application on the laptop to transfer them onto the C-Class memory after pairing the laptop to the computer. It took about 2 minutes to load them all. I experimented at first hoping that the contacts saved for my laptop bluetooth connection will be used for all BT connections, and it is. Now all my contacts are in the car and pop up when I use my iPhone 4.

it's seems to me that dialing directly from the address book on the iphone is far easier than using the car's interface. why bother to import everything into the car?

Any iPhone cannot transfer contacts via bluetooth. Apple limits their bluetooth capabilities. Use an old phone that has bluetooth capabilities and it will work smoothly. I used my old Motorola Razr.

The coolest part about syncing your contacts to the car is that when people in your contacts call you see their name on the screen instead of just their phone number.

For the Audio 20 system in the W204, this is a quick way to update contacts from any Iphone.

Download an app called "Air Contacts" from the app store, use it to upload all your contacts as v cards on your laptop over a wifi network, then sink you laptop to the car and select all, right click / send by bluetooth... Should take you no more than 10 mins.

An iPhone can transfer by Bluetooth, the command in my ML has an option to import data under the tele settings which pulls all contacts across in less than 60secs by bluetooth

Hi,

I have an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4 (will update tonight with the latest version) and a 2011 C350. Right now I can't seem to get to my contacts. My iPhone is connected via Bluetooth and the iPod integration.

I don't seem to have the same options. My options seem to be something like (sorry, trying to recall from memory) "Receive Business Cards" and something about "Import External Data" which is grayed out and un-selectable.

Importing may be my only option since I can't seem to get to my contacts from my iPhone?

I would prefer to get to my contacts from the Command interface, but if not, I suppose I have to find a way to copy my vCards to my car. Any ideas what the problems are? Suggestions?

@whacko77uk

thanks, I was able to get my contacts' vcards into my car this morning. Your suggestion to connect my MacBook via Bluetooth was going to be my backup plan.

Since my Macbook doesn't have a PCMCIA slot, what I did was attach my camera to my computer via USB and copied my vCards on there. Then I found an old PCMCIA/SD adapter. I was prepared for failure since I read that some PCMCIA cards were not being recognized by some cars. Once I realized that my PCMCIA card was not being rejected, I was able to select "Import External Data".

Not the best solution, but it works. Ideally would have liked to get to my iPhone contacts without importing them to the car's HDD.

Thanks!

FWIW, I bought the expensive PCMCIA memory card (bah!) and just turned my mac contacts into V-cards. Worked like a charm. Now the challenge will be to update them as I add them (Iphone 4..let's not even go into the problems I've been having with THAT toy). You can't just reload all the contacts...it will duplicate everything. I can never remember all the new numbers I put in...so... =P I guess I'll just have to wipe it each time and reload them all.

I have a blackberry as well (newer one...have no idea of the model as I hate it...I much prefer my iphone) and getting it to connect to the bluetooth is painstaking. Not sure why - it was successful only once. I don't even bother with trying to connect that phone anymore (live in remote area...so I need to switch between cell phones at times to get coverage).

Yeah, I think updating contacts and keeping them in sync with what's on the phone/computer will be annoying too. That's why I wish I could just get to my iPhone contacts from the Command without actually importing them into my car.

I'm going to ask SA if they have a work-around for that....or someway to remove the duplicates. I went through the system, but there's always little tricks perhaps we don't know. I doubt there will be a solution, but here's to trying =)

I'll report back.

You can't imagine how thankful I am for you posting this! I was so ticked AFTER closing on my new car Monday, they told me "oh, iPhones don't adhere to the vCard standard" so there is a software glitch in the car and in the iPhone. I tried your suggestion by trying to connect my laptop to the car. That dog didn't hunt. I have a MacBook Pro. If you have suggestions on how to connect properly, I'm all over it! I'm sure I was doing something wrong.

Isn't it likely that your MacBook is using the same Apple proprietary format as the iPhone would? What about if your try a Windows based laptop or another brand phone.

I followed one of the above method using the Air Contacts app from my iPhone4 to download all my contacts to my laptop and then synced all the contacts from my laptop to the C.

Total time: 5 minutes.
Total cost: $1.99 for the app.

You need to pair up the laptop to your car first like you do with your phone, then once it's paired you just send the files you downloaded to the car through bluetooth.
