Sylvania H7SU vs. HID

Has anyone tried the Sylvania H7SU in place of the OEM H7 halogen? How white/bright is it?

I'm considering the DDM Kit but was wonder if I could get a much bright look from the halogen with the upgrade bulb replacement. Seems this would be a super easy upgrade if it is that much brighter.

Also, our high beams use the same bulb as the low beams, correct?

HIDs are so much brighter than halogens, but I'm switching back to halogens because I'm not satisfied with the light pattern of HIDs with non-P2 projectors (dark spots and a dip in the middle of the projection). It'll be white-looking halogens, of course. Philips CrystalVision.

Have you tried or seen the Philips CrystalVision before? How do they compare to the OEM or the Sylvania H7SU ?

I just bought them today, and I'll put them in my fogs sometime soon.
I'll have to order new low beam caps before I buy another pair for my low beams.

There's a whole thread by Vic_Viper about them, but I think there's 2 kinds.
Philips CrystalVision 4000k and 4300k. The ones at O'Reilly are the 4000k.
I hope there's no difference between the two.

I've also heard Sylvania Silverstar Ultras still have a slight yellow tint to them, which is not what I want.
They are also like $10 more expensive a pair.

I have seen the Philips CV 4300k and from the looks, it does give a crisp white just like OEM HIDs. Performance wise, I have heard they are pretty good, maybe one of the best out there considering it a filter halogen bulb.

FYI, I bought and tried out the Sylvania SilverStar Ultras tonight and I must say, I was VERY disappointed.

I had one side in with the OEM halogen and the other side with the H7SU. I could not tell a difference between the two in brightness or color. Had my beams point at a wall, drove with them, no difference. Bummer, sounds like the Philips CV is a better bulb.

Incidentally, I replaced the light on the passenger side and it was VERY easy, maybe too easy. There was one step I didn't do. I was trying to pull the plug off the pins of the bulb and the lightbulb snapped out of the housing, no pressing on the metal clip. I then pulled the light out of the plug. Is this a new design in the 2010? Putting it back in, I replaced the light into the plug and then pushed the light/plug into the housing and it snapped in nice and snug, again, no fiddling with a clip. Is this correct?

I just ordered 3 sets of Philips CV last night. I was going to go the HID route, but decided to give this a try first.

I'll try to gracefully wipe the egg from my face as I reveal that I replaced the high beam bulb last night not the low beam. DOH!

So of course both low beams looked identical. In my defense, I was doing this at night with a flash light.

I will retry the experiment again later. I expect to see SOME difference between the OEM and the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra. If not, I will try the Philips CV although I was reading a thread on the Luminics Krypton series that makes them sound very interesting!

Well, tried the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra tonight, replaced the correct bulb this time. Not impressed! I could barely see a color difference and to be honest, didn't really see much of a light difference either.

So I will try something else. What's the consensus here, MTEC Super White, MTEC Cosmos Blue, Philips CV, Luminics Krypton, or ??

I'm concerned because in many of the pictures I've seen, they blueish halogens that looked more like HIDs were horribly low on light output.

Most of us here are using Philips. You can choose between he Crystal vision or Diamond Vision. I have the DV on mine.

Are those available locally at an autoparts store/wally world or only online?

I remember when I was looking for them, no one local carries them at all. Mainly all sylvania. No one even carry philips bulbs around my area, or atleast not the CV.

Hmmm, ordered the Luminics Krypton Titanium White based on another thread here. We'll see how that works out.

Also, I may order a 4.5" LED strip I saw from a vendor on here. I measured and it looks like it will fit nicely next to the fog light near the top of the mesh. I would want to wire it for always on. Any suggestions on where to tap into?

If you're looking for always on, your best bet is to probably just run a wire to the fusebox and use a switched location. This is easily found using a test light. Otherwise, if you just wanted them to come on with the park/headlights I'd grab power from the side marker lights.

let us know how the Luminics bulbs work out, I'm interested in upgrading as well.

Yup, it seems that most factory LED DRLs come on with switch power. I'll have to check that out.

I'm hoping the Luminics bulbs are good. It was either those or the Philips CV or DV. Should have the Luminics by Wed or Thur next week. I'll post a review and hopefully some pics.

Lights arrived today. Already installed. I like the looks. I also installed the tinted Lamin-x on both the fogs and driving lights. Waiting on my LED's to arrive, then I'll be able to do eye brows, side markers and license plate.

Can you post some picks of the Philips CV and maybe a comparison to the stock?

Which LEDs did you order?

Hi Royce,
Saw it, I believe he is comparing these bulbs in the fogs, not the low beams. I did see pics of some of these bulbs in the low beams but everyone's camera is different, so if someone can post another pic, it would be great.

Because of the shiny interior of the assembly, the entire interior glows with the color. And the lens of the low beam, non-xenon changes the color a bit also. It really needs a pic with the correct exposure to get a good idea how it would look.

Try Danson Chan or something like that. Vic came up with a few threads regarding the lights. On one of the thread the member I told you about has all his lights switched out with CV.
