I finally got around to installing my HID fogs. I got a kit from a brand known as KLight. What was nice about this kit was that I didn't have to get error cancelers for the lights, and it came with mounting brackets where you can mount the ballast onto a pre-existing bolt inside the engine/bumper support.

So I had some help from a friend who's far more experienced in installing lights, and because we didn't want to go through the hassle of removing the bumper, we did it through the fog light housings/fenders. (Should I do a DIY on installing from the fenders?) It was basically a pain in the *** at first because we were figuring out how the fog adapters I got from iJDMtoy would work, but once we got going, we pretty much had it down. Sadly I can't get before/after pics from my phone since it's saved onto the phone itself instead of the memory card and for some reason I can't move it to the card.

I have to say, for those who plan on installing through the fog light housing on the driver's side, good luck! There's little to no room in the back and the fog light is completely blocked off from the fender lining, so the entire install on that side has to be done by feel. But once you get the bulb seated properly, it's pretty much smooth sailing from there. Basically we found bolting points that we could mount the bracket to and then zip tied the ballast so that I wouldn't have to worry about any vibrations during driving.

Once we ran the lights, I really have to say, the difference between the stock halogens and the HIDs was like night and day. They are VERY very bright and could probably run as headlights themselves. One issue that I had was that because my car has the cornering fogs from the P2 package, every time I turn the wheel or signal, the light flickers and THEN turns on. If I turn on both sides at the same time however, there is no such flickering. It's probably because with the halogens, the lights came on gradually due to their capability to turn on/become brighter according to the voltage taken in. I'll probably end up turning the fogs on whenever I drive, but it's a minor gripe I supposed. I heard from Frank that I can disable the function with the STAR diagnostic system, but I'm still not sure if that's worth the trouble.

All in all, the install took about 2 hours to complete, and the results are very promising.

Yeah you probably could. To be honest they're a bit on the pricier side. I got em for $100 but for some reason, on the site they sell for $160. Lemme try to find them cheaper somewhere else first, or I'll ask the person I got em from if they're willing to ship.

I'd gladly send you the info but my friend who I got the lights from is going to bed right now seeing as it's about 2:40 in the morning here in SoCal. I'll ask him tomorrow for billing information and whatnot. But if you don't mind waiting a week or two, I think I'll test the lights out a bit more before I fully grant them the SnarlingChicken Seal of Approval. I'd hate to recommend a product that I'm not 100% satisfied with to anyone on these forums. I'll take note of any issues that may or may not come up.

By the way did you ever get that CL style grille installed? I don't remember seeing any pics of it :O

 

Alright sure. That sounds perfectly fine to me. I'll see what O-nex has to say about my shipping as well. I ordered a set from them on the 22nd of June and I have not received it till now. Only a confirmation number was provided with no tracking info at all.

 

:O oh dear.... Either customer service at O-Nex is lacking.....or Melbourne, Australia must be off the map! Anyways I hope your issues with O-Nex get resolved. I'll get back to you on any potential issues (if there are any) regarding my lights soon.

Hi Snarlingchicken, do you find that your fogs are blinding to oncoming traffic?

 

I wouldn't quite call them blinding but when I'm parked facing a building (lets say a 3 story building or so) and I turn on just my foglights, the light does illuminate (just a tad) up to the third floor from about 20 yards away. Basically, there is a glare, but nothing that standard halogen lights from older cars don't already produce.

 

we'll let's try to review this a bit more realistically. you have 3x the lumen and
you're disregarding the glare as if it doesn't matter. of course it does. it has
threefold the brightness. I wouldn't be so blase about this anomaly.

When you're turning, bright is good but the slow turn on would be a problem. I wouldn't want to defeat this feature.

Nope. It's never happened and I highly doubt it ever will. Unless I go weaving in and out of traffic or drive without my lights on at night.

 

Did you seal the back of the fog light housing? How did you put the bulbs in? what style? Any modifications to the existing H7 bulb holders? I'm asking all of this because I do installs all them time. I'm a tech for Mercedes and it takes me about 2 hours, but I'm a perfectionist. I'll attach some pics, I'm also doing a DIY for the retrofit soon. All of the pictures were from when I retrofit the Xenon fogs a few months back on my C.

 

I ordered the fog light adaptors on iJDMtoy as recommended by another forum member. I needed to cut off a plastic tab for the adaptors to fit perfectly, but they did end up working. I had to use the stock rubber seals in place of the ones that came with the iJDMtoy adaptors because the iJDMtoy ones were a bit too fat. Besides that, you basically use the stock H7 bulb holder with the iJDMtoy and then screw them in. However there's some wiggle once they're screwed in, but my friend used some black high heat foam of some sort to keep the bulbs in place. If I ever get the chance I'll open up the fender lining and take a picture of the insides.
