Question on aftermarket head units...

SO after doing numerous searches it seems nobody ever installs aftermarket CD players in thier W204's.....is there a reason for this?

The problem is that you really can't replace the head unit as all those other functions are connected. What sucks is that MB won't do an upgrade to the 7" pop-out system. I got my 300 CPO, and I didn't even know that was an option at the time.

No one does aftermarket because no offerings is better than just retrofitting command system for the price/oem look aspect.

Doesn't the base radio have a CD slot? And where would another unit be located?

I don't think there is enough demand to produce something for this car.

The only person I know who has actually gone through and installed a double din unit and made it look fairly clean on a 204 is got_thang. Search for his posts.

I've seen a few different people with aftermarket systems in their C300's... all have been very pleased with the results.

Yeah, you can retrofit the COMAND MM system in your W204, but you're probably not going to pay a penny less than $2K. And for what? A mediocre stock system.. at best.
Save yourself the headaches...

Going completely aftermarket will mean you'll be tearing into the dash. Not the best option either when it comes to aesthetics... but the performance and features will be unbeatable (if you don't mind losing your existing features). Purely a judgment call on your part.. but it definitely requires professional fabrication. Unfortunately they do not make aftermarket double din molds for newer W204's.

Personally.. I'm going an entirely different route. I'm going to professionally mount a 7-8" 4G android tablet in front of the 5" screen. It will sit on a charger, but be portable whenever I need to remove it. Got an aftermarket speaker setup anyway.. so it's good to go. Pandora, web browser, navigation, youtube, 250gb HDD, games... whatever... and no cutting into the existing stock setup.

Later..
