To be honest, I have been keeping my eye on this car for a while. I just may think about trading my c-class in for it if its review is promising when it is officially released. Other than the Buick name brand being farty, there is no let down about this vehicle. Its fast, fuel efficient, sexy, and gorgeous. Also, buick has been rated by J.D. power year after year the highest for customer satisfaction and reliability...
The only thing I am on the fence about is the rear styling. It kind of reminds me of a mazda 6, and doesn't complement the front of the vehicle very well...
EDIT: I see that they have actually ditched support for the 335hp turbo v-6 in the U.S. and are only offering that engine in Europe... The U.S. GS is maxed out at 255hp turbo 4 cyl which is 0-60 in less than 7 seconds... That is a huge disappointment for me. Couple that with the fact that they dropped AWD support in exchange for fwd, and they turned what is supposed to be a badass sporty car into a big *****. A car with that styling, those looks, and a sport rated version not even offered in a v6, let alone FWD only... Come on... Looks like I will pass on this vehicle. GM, I have no pity for you, I hope you flop just as hard, if not harder than the first time...

It's a rebadged Opel Insignia..def German. It's even built in Germany (at least until Canadian production starts up next year).

Compared to current Buicks, yes they are good, but that's from a dreadfully low baseline!
Cadillac tried it before with the Caterina - another Opel in drag!

Also the Buick version is much more upmarket than the stripper Opels used as fleet cars. This formula worked for it's main competitor, the Acura TSX, which is a run of the mill Accord in Europe and sold as a premium car here.

Pontiac sold about twice as many cars as Buick in 2009 ,in NA. But the Chinese apparently like fake Buicks, so the brand was kept - not because we liked it, but as a big Kowtow to Beijing.
Still, who can argue. GM is famous for its brilliant marketing strategies, right?

Likely because of fleet sales. Pontiac had one decent car, the G8, and it was poorly marketed and didn't sell well. The rest of the lineup was rebadged previous generation Chevys.
Globally Buick has value, Pontiac didn't anymore.

Well I don't know. My '97 Grand Prix was, and still is, a pretty good car and I was never offered a Pontiac on the rental lot, and I rent quite often.

I doubt it, Euro rentals are surprisingly advanced. I rent there for a month or two every year, and they are very well equipped.
C300kid, this sounds like the sort of discussion that needs 2-3 pints of Guinness.
Cheers

It's a step in the right direction for GM but still looks like a Grandpa-mobile to me...a really cool grandpa! Too bloated appearing even though it does have a certain charm, but not for me.
My first car in high school was a 1982 Buick Regal, which I loved at the time, so had to take a look :o)

At the end of the day your still driving a Buick . A coke made in Germany doesn't make German , it's still a coke . And what does " sport injected " mean ? It's a nice looking car who just don't know any better . Motor trend gated this car saying ut felt heavy and underpowered . Nice car to look at but should not be compared to any German or Japanese saloon because it simply does not compete at all .

The end of the world is near !!! NADA just named the Regal car of the year -

I bet there is no one under 50 on their writing staff - and what qualifies them to make that conclusion as a priceguide publisher...???

I must say this:
The Buick Regal has come a long way, as I owned one before, a 1993 Regal Limited Coupe. It was sport tuned injected, 3.8 engine, and had quite a bit of pep. This 2012 model looks to be impressive, nice amenities.
However, no the Regal is not a German "high-end" saloon nor Japanese for comparison at the end of the day. It is a good substitute if you wish to have a lower priced, lower cost in upkeep daily driver. Another use is, this could be a daily driver in the stable while your MB (or other higher-up vehicle gets less miles on it.
To wrap it all up, the Buick Regal does not have the same level of torque, refinement, etc, in comparison with certain German or Japanese luxury cars, but it does fit nicely in with some of the lower models. It's not nearly as "farty" as being depicted here, but I don't see many folks in their 20's driving them.

Dunno..down here Vibes, G6s, and Grand Prixs were rarely seen without a rental sticker. You rarely see Buick rentals, though I do occasionally.

Having said that, this can't really be uncompetitive with German saloons since it IS one..it's just not a luxury car. People do some simple research before you write something off as junk. Regarding the motor trend article..it is underpowered. For 2011 they only imported the base 4 cylinder..for the 2012MY they'll have the 255hp turbo which is what this car needs.
Anyway, no this car is not a C-Class or 3 Series but it's not intended to be..GM has Cadillac for that. It's aimed at the Acura TSX, Volvo S40, Volkswagen Passat, etc..and I think it's very competitive in that group.

I agree 100% with what c300kid is saying. This car is great and is perfectly designed for what its intended competition is. This car is not meant to be pitted up against the "luxury" german car brands. The C-class, BMW 3 series in particular start at what this vehicle comes in around as fully loaded.
Instead it is meant to be an alternative to the passat, jetta, cc, acrua tsx, tl, or a maxima. This car beats every car in that segment, hands-down. Where I live I have never once seen a buick rental. I have seen tons of pontiacs, nissans, and fords and chevys.
If you want to compare GM's luxury divison (cadillac) to mercedes, bmw, and audi, then that is a very fair contest. To be honest, cadillac even wins out in a couple of matches. The cts-v is the fastest luxury sedan to date at a much cheaper price than nearly the entire competition. My Escalade truck is a marvelous vehicle, and I love just how refined everything feels.
The Regal is meant for people who need a daily driver, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a vehicle with good looks, sporty character, and good ride comfort. Not to mention that Buick has topped the J.D. Power Dependability charts for quite some time now.

It's still a Buick lol , it does not compete with the maxima or the tsx . I will agree it stands a chance to compete with a passat . I'm not saying it is a bad car it the c class is a Bently because it's not lol who would come up with that . The term sport injected us total bs . I like the direction the car is taking but it is simply to big to compete with even the non luxury sport sedans . The tsx is regarded as a sports saloon because it is the byic is not a sports or sporty car at all it is a Buick . Even if it is made in a Opel factory it's made to Buick standards making slow and boring . It looks great and gas nice features but like I said already it's still a Buick not some secret German wonder car .
