Light Selector Illuminated or Dark

My selection for the headlights has the green light illuminated to indicate lights are on, but the actual different settings I can select is dark. I asked the service dept today and they said it was meant to be dark. It is quite odd that the selector itself lights up, but the selection options are completely dark. Can anyone confirm this is correct, or bogus?

There is no problem with your car. The different light settings doesn't illuminate when selected. I leave mine on AUTO most of the time. I turn on the fogs as needed. You'll get used to it... you have to rely on your sense of touch

It's supposed to be dark. I would love to know why MB designed it this way

Agree, seems odd, I picked it up in the evening and had to turn on the interior light to figure it out, and kept wondering what I was missing by not seeing what I was clicking. Glad I am not the only one.

Poor design, for sure.

Certainly an overlooked detail but four Mercedes later( 03 e 06 ml500 09w204 and 10 e class coupe with all the options) the dial positions are well memorized. The only time I got confused is in my e coupe with the new dial for the intelligent lighting system the options are slightli different but boils down to the same fundamentals.

on my 2010 C300, you cannot turn on the fogs when the dial is set to "Auto"....this is part of the problem with the unlit dial.
