Am I the only one that doesn't get the whole "lowering thing"... I think the car is already low enough to begin with. I scrape the front bumper just going in peoples driveways. Lowering it any further would be a pain in the ****. Have to watch out for everything. The distance between the outer edge of the tires and the fender isn't even that big stock... I have definitely seen much worse.

Mercedes has sold over 1 million W204's.. but I'm sure you'll be the first to lower it on 17" rims..

If you are hitting things stock then you need to learn how to drive a low car. You should never rub anything. It's all about the angles and going slow. I feel like our cars are a mile off the ground when I look at it.

lowering on stock 17's will emphasize the crappy offset even more, better plan it with some spacers first, i think eibach with 5mm spring pad gives the optimum ride height for a daily driver

The lowering thing - yesterday I scraped the bottom of my C300 around 40 times just driving over speed reducers (and this going as SLOW as possible, alas they were taller than the low point just behind the front axel). So hey, I DON´T GET IT EITHER!!!

I lowered my car for over a year and half and now my car is mess up from the underneath. I scrape over everything you can think of, and yes I'm running on 17" with 5mm. I think it would be better to have 18".

With 18" tires, you would have a lower profile tire with a similar overall diameter of the wheel/tire unit, your car would be just as low, and you would incur just as much damage.
