Best Type of Brake Pads to Buy?!?!?!

Hey guys,

It's time for me to buy new brake pads and was wondering what is the best options for me to buy???

I have bad problems with rear brake dust since I bought the car and was told by MBenz that they fixed those and the news ones are good. I do have 50% off on new brakes from them.

Should I buy another brand or buy them for 50% off from the dealership? Big thing is brake dust as well, I hate driving once and having to clean my rims everyday from them.

Thanks

Tomorrow, I am having Akebono EUR 1340/1341 pads installed along with returning to my 3 season wheels/tires. I will post my experiences, but as of today, they are still in the box!

Look up Armour all Wheel Protectant on youtube or just google it to read about it - As stated before, I am OCD about car detailing and was just like you cleaning wheels literally every time I drove the car - This stuff works - period. It is about 8 bucks a can, but you can get a couple applications out of each can and it works for a couple weeks...

Take advantage of the discounted brakes this time around and use this stuff, you will not be disappointed.

I changed the rear rotors on my C300 but not the pads - the rotors were scrap. I no longer have dust. I changed my rotors to aftermarket rather than buying MB OEM mostly because of cost but I also think its insane that MB designs these things to wear out every 30,000 miles. My dealer said I should change the rotors when I change the pads. The dealer also said I would be sorry to change to aftermarket rotors and would be coming back within 5,000 miles for the stock rotors. Whatever....

With all that being said, I really like the stock pads - they stop the car, don't squeal and I no longer have dust. The front rotors are OEM C350's with OEM pads. When the front rotors wear out, I'll get aftermarket as well.

First day with Akebono...from the first stop, quiet and smooth, no low speed grinding sounds, with very good braking action. Akebono does not recommend high speed bedding, but I did a couple of 60-0 stops right out of the shop, and they felt great! Looking forward to having very clean wheels!

At least the fronts. If the rears are out of spec, you'll need those too...

How do they compare with the OEM pads? I'm thinking of getting a set of Akebono pads as well

Did an almost 500 mile day trip yesterday, including one or two "dramatic" moments...the pads are great. Versus the good-condition OE pads we removed, they are silent at any speed, provide firmer pedal feel, and perform extremely well. I will be checking to see just how dust-free they are when I wash the car next, but as of today, I plan to buy another set for the E Class which has wheels that are almost impossible to clean (tiny split spokes).

I have Akebono on the SL 500, and I LOVE it. When my c300 needs brakes I am definitely going to akebono. I have had them for over a year now, and there really is no brake dust. I could go for months without washing the rims. They get a white power residue - almost like dust, so they don't shine after a few weeks, but definitely no black specs!

Are you using the akebono pads with stock rotors?

I have the C300 W204 with AMG sports package(perforated discs/Mercedes lettering calipers) Been looking for aftermarket pads..EBC Redstuff is one of my options..
Appreciate the part number for the Akebono and possibly the link to purchase as well.

Yes, at 17k miles, they were in good condition and did not need changing for the new pads.

EUR 1340 and EUR 1341 for front and rear. I bought them on Amazon. Just type in EUR 1340, then repeat for EUR 1341 and they pop right up.

I bought the ones from autozone, the "gold" version. Lifetime warranty and they were prob about $100 per axle.

Sportstick,
I emailed Akebono just to make sure that they have the right pads, told them my model,VIN and even provided them the OEM pads part number A0054201020..their US western regional manager replied that Akebono DON'T make pads for my car!?
I'm a bit confused now. Just to confirm ur brakes are the perforated discs with the mercedes lettering calipers?
Mine is a UK spec car 3.0 V6 7gtronic..W204 year 08..Hope you can help me clarify this as I wouldn't want to order the wrong pads.

Rgds

The Akebono model numbers are EUR 1340 and EUR 1341. Ask them to look those up and see the application. Unless something changed from 08 to 09, one would think the same pads should serve both model years. Here is a shot of my caliper and rotor.

I am so pleased with these pads, I just ordered another set for the E350.

Try it yourself! I ran it with a 2008 C300 and got the same results!

Aren't you being a little aggressive putting back on your Summer Rubber? I am still running my Blizzaks here in Detroit....maybe it's time, but I am a little gun-shy.....I am worried about that late snow like last year.

LOL...yeah, I've been told that! But, with temps in the 50s/60s and knowing I had a road trip of a few hundred miles last week, I just couldn't wait. We are forecasting ice tonight, so I am thinking I may stay inside tomorrow morning until it melts a bit...worst case if I need to get out...take the Jeep.

Here's a shot of mine..i noticed that there's some slight difference,
the second picture I got from the net..clearer details.

1) there's 4 inline perforated holes on the disc
2) there's a sort of torx nut on the side of the calipers, even the caliper shape (at the edges) seems slightly different.

Hmmmm...design difference could be a side effect of a local supply base. Perhaps the next step would be for your MB Parts Advisor to check part numbers for pads in Malaysia versus North America to see if the OE parts are different.
