@enconder: Yes the HK system is specially engineered for each vehicle, and of course the E is no exception. Will provide audiophile quality sound for the mere $800. In the past I had paid more than that just for a new needle for the cartridge of my turntable. A real bargain, dont buy any Merc without the HK. The B&O system in the SLS is inferior (IMO).

However, I will wait until the 2014 E comes out to purchase mine, here is a photo. Hope the production E looks like this.

This is a damn good thread. I have the HK Logic 7 in the CLK. Very happy.

That said I've been most impressed with what the standard system can do in the W204 with a little judicious fiddling & not Ghetto Blaster settings that wreck the sound.

Cars are a hostile environment in which to achieve good sound.

Has anyone had problems with the equalizer settings not staying after the the car is off? My 2008 c350 Audio 20 does not hold the settings after turning the stereo off. It just had the "software update" and the ipod cable replaced by the dealer. This corrected the volume problem with the ipod but didn't help the EQ settings.

I have a question about this tweak.
Somehow i can't save/hear the setting changes? (no i'm not deaf)

Yes, i can acces the engineering menu
Yes, i can press "flat" button and it change to "tune" and then change all parameters.
But, when i press "set" nothing happens.
And when i exit the menu, nothing happens.

What am i doing wrong?

Thank you very much !

By the way, it's a w204 c250cdi 4matic (amg-kit) made on 21/04/2012 with audi20 and becker GPS

This EQ is amazing! Just messed with it for the last hour and what a difference! Frequencies the factory boosted are junk! I used these for my fronts leaving the the Q settings the same for now:
90hz +2
500hz -.5
1000hz +4
5000hz +4

rears are the same except 60hz instead of 90hz and gain is +1 instead of +2

In main sound EQ my treble is at +10 and my bass is at -3 and fader is centered.
I have years of being a drummer and a sound tech and I know what I want music to sound like and the frequencies that are most important. Kick drum should hit hard, bass guitar should be clear and not muddy. Mids shouldn't be boxy and highs should be crisp but not too tinny. I spent an hour but will keep dialing it in and post any changes. Not everyone likes the same sound but this is what my ears tell me the EQ should be set at for good staging and presence. Hope it helps

It's definitely changing but you have to do each speaker by itself and use the gain pretty generously to hear the difference. try my settings above and see what you think. Also go into the MAXVOLUME settings and raise them all up and your volume max will go WAY up. It cranks pretty well for a factory system now

Yes ! now i can hear the changing of my settings.

But there is something strange about my engineering menu.

Q go's from 0 - 5 - 10 up to 40 (i believe)
dB's go's from 0 - 5 - 10 up to 80 (!!)

very strange, and you all change to just some +dB.

When i'm back from my trip to germany (Porsche Museum/Mercedes Museum & a quick stop at affalterbach and BMW Welt) I will continue to tweak my system.

I'm also planning to hook up my DBX driverack to the auxjack to do some RTA!

Is there an easy way to revert back to default settings? I've played around with Cleanbenz settings, trying to go to default values (eg. filter2 on FL is 2300) but can't... goes from 1000 to 2000 then 3000

thx

It never ceases to amaze me...

I don't get how some people could read the first post on how to access the engineering menu YET skip the all important 3rd post about the consequences of changing the values. It's not a 10 page post people, learn to read through every post and you might learn something. Once you change the factory values, you can't restore them to their default values.

I changed mine and am very happy with the results. This is a must do for us basic audio guys with a W204. Clear undistorted sound is all that comes out now. All that's missing is a little bass but that's for another time.

This is a great thread! Thanks all for the helpful info. I just finished replacing all 4 speakers with kappa 62.9's in my 2010 GLK, and set the EQ as shown here, and the results are spectacular! A very worthwhile mod!

Next step would definitely be a powered sub. Any help to that end would be very much appreciated!

I've been running my bass in the main EQ on 0 instead of -3 and it's a good difference. The problem with trying to grab more bass out of the parametric EQ is that it pull too much power to boost the bass and ends up compressing all the mids and highs. Other than changing the bass to 0 in the regular EQ my settings have remained the same as I posted in the pic above and I'm satisfied that it's the best i can get.

Cleanguy,

When you say "bass in the main EQ on 0 instead of -3", do you mean the tone control bass set at zero?

Yes, in the tone control. I originally had it set to -3 but I also lacked the bass everyone is commenting on. If you want more just move it up higher than 0 but be warned it will compress everything else and lower the volume to be able to give you more bass. We'll never get serious sub bass without a separate sub so I'm going for all around sound quality as I would have tuned my competition systems.
