Yeah John - you could well be right. These nice Mercedes people don't tell us what 10 is in my document. Will investigate!

C350 2008 break pedal
2008 C350 with Advanced Agility Pack + AMG package.
I have experienced something similar, but hopefully not the same.
Comfort Mode:
If I drive in Comfort mode slowish mood, the break pedal feels low, looking down I get worried.
When speed limiter is on this changes to a pedal high with sudden braking after slacking down, similar to Sport mode.
Sport Mode:
If I drive in sport mode and slow down, the pedal feels stiff and high.I feel happy with this, breaks are sudden and good.
Which electronic system with which parts is controlling this behaviour ?

W204 C280
Very interesting thread. Sorry to hear about your problems. I do have a few questions, if you don't mind me asking,
What is the year model of the C220 CDi? Sorry, I don't have access to the VIN decoder.
What was the mileage of the car when this brake problem first started to happen?
How was the car driven before the problem started to happen? Any constant hard driving, hard braking, etc?
I would assume this would be a problem among all W204s? Despite the fact that this unit in question was manufactured in South Africa, while units in other regions are made in Germany? Germany units could still suffer from the same problem?
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Do let us know the progress with MBSA and good luck!

Hi Albert - 2007 C220 CDI - problem after first front pad change - no hard driving. SA builds most W204 for the USA with top up from Germany. SA plant has the contract. That is one of the reasons we posted here - to see if there is a problem with SA build - seems not.
EDIT:
The problem started at 49,500 Km (30,700 miles) - the vehicle has now done 52,000 Km (32,000 miles)
To check your vehicle: Keep a gentle continuous pressure on the brake pedal while starting the vehicle. If the brake pedal sinks down more than a couple of centimetres when vacuum is applied to the booster, you may have a similar problem.

I think it is fairly obvious that the car will fail this test. If the pedal sinks to the floor in under 8 seconds & the car looses braking it will not be passing any 5 minute pressure hold tests & would not have failed roadworthy.

This actually indicates that the brake booster is functioning properly and is no indication of a fault, a gentle continuous pressure on the pedal without starting the vehicle would indicate a fault if the pedal drops away.
please carry out that brake pressure test esp. the low pressure test and report back. dont just assume it will fail.

Feedback. It's been done. It fails. Please also read the thread & watch the video clip. The owners wife had the pedal go to the floor & no brakes when entering an underground parking garage.
Tomorrow the car goes to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). They produce the roadworthy requirements for SA & are extremely interested. We have now found some more cars in SA with the problem.
The brake pedal should soften slightly & go down a little as vacuum is applied to the booster. It should not go down to the floor requiring one to pump the brakes in order to stop.

The NRCS at SABS - responsible for vehicle homologation in SA, tested the vehicle today and confirmed the problem. They have contacted MBSA. We await a response.

I cannot believe that a company in the business of selling highly engineered cars can have such an attitude. Obviously like many politicians they loose the sense of reality & must be brought to heel !!!

How many German cars??
You don't know how lucky you are. My 2008 is my 18th and before the Lexus LS 400 brought them up short, the German car builders middle name was Arrogant. Dealer service, on average, was poor and warranty repairs were a real struggle. At Porsche, many failures were "customer abuse".
How well I recall, when my new 914-6's second gear synchro went away during the very short warranty, the Factory Rep said to me, "it cannot be our car, it must be you."
And then, on the same car, when I complained about the undercoating applied (possibly by fire hose by the area Distributor) which didn't get a lot on the car's belly pan but did generously slop over onto the exhaust heat exchangers, the front of the muffler and the rear brake backing plates and the halfshafts, all of which I had to clean up myself.
His answer: "You did not have to buy the car."
Formerly SS, perhaps.

Yes - "Very true" ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Still like our Benz products but I've been lucky. My car from new has required 2 X castor bushes under warranty (known problem), 1 X 5 cent tranny plug crush washer due to slight weep & 1 X RHS rear stop lamp bulb.

Benz is still hiding.
Any more input before we let this one die. It appears that this malady is not common.
