Considering the low failure rate of this assembly I doubt they'll do anything with it except pass it on to the vendor. If a human maintenance error caused the problem I think we'd see more failures than this one. I believe it was a component failure. I never doubted it would be resolved but I'm very surprised at how long it took and the effort required on the customer's part.

Do you think MB will do an analysis of the HCU?

I might be an idea to open the calliper bleed v/v when pushing back the pistons to stop any chance of overpressurisation & dirt entering this complicated system ?.

Keith certainly has had his problems with this 220cdi . I liked the story of the 2005 C Class 220cdi with over 500,000 Km on the clock. The owners comment for such a high virtually trouble free mileage was to "treat her like a lady"!
I think Benz will look at the unit but I don't think they will tell us what they find. I might be pleasantly surprised but I'm not holding thumbs.

Poor dealer is most of what this is about as you said earlier. We know of some other cars found in SA with the same fault. One used on a dealer lot in Port Elizabeth & a new Blue Efficiency in Johannesburg. You know me - I would just like to understand the failure mode.

The ESP unit in my car was made by ATe (Alfred Teves) and must be German made.

Which of late is no recommendation.

Yes - The ABS unit on this car is ATe & was replaced with ATe.

If the whole system is sound then replace the ABS block.

Very interesting I'm having the same problem I can't bleed my brakes, can't seem to get a firm paddle always sinks to floor I have replaced the mc and servo, I have pressure bleed it I have manually bleed it, I have plugged in to star because apparently you have to use star to bleed nothing I can't get a pedal I'm going to change the abs unit and try will update if fixes the prob.
Cheers

Please let us know the outcome. The likely offender is the ABS block.

I ended up replacing the abs unit and that changed nothing. In the end I put all the old parts back, pressure blead the system twice and voila it all worked. So still don't know what the actual problem was.

Was this on your 04 230 Coup or a W204?
