Hi Everyone,

I have a 09 plate C200 KOMPRESSOR W204 and i seem to getting a Tapping Knocking noise from the car when in idle. When driving the noise disappears and starts again at traffic lights or when i come to a stop.

Took it to dealer and they said the EGR needed replacing. After replacing EGR the noise is still there. The dealer says the noise doesnt seem to be comming from engine. What could this noise be ?

Has anyone else experienced this noise during idle or when stopping at traffic inside the car ?

Are you using premium 93 or at least 91 octane gas?

Also, your description is a bit unclear, does it occur when you are stopped or when you are driving.

The tapping / knocking noise only comes when im stopped. No noise when driving. Im using super unleaded 97 ron or shell v power 99 ron

Likely the purge valve on the EECS.

does the noise go away once the engine is warm? When i first got my c200k i noticed the knocking noise on idle and cold startup, had it checked by dealer and they said all was well...it has been in for two services since and no issues so i think its a characteristic of the engine....

In past MB engines, noises like this have been traced to a failing chain tensioner. I wouldn't accept the dealer's answer without further examination. If you haven't experienced a timing chain jumping a tooth or two, you haven't known real excitement.

Ive had the same problem tell the guys to check something called the regeneration valve or something like that

how do you know if the timing chain has skipped one or two teeth?
