Horn not loud enough?

Do you guys feel the stock horn is not very loud?
I don't think mine is very effective, especially on the highway.

Just wondering how hard it is to replace or upgrade the horn to something that attracts attention of distracted drivers.

This all depends on your definition of loud, but I know a number of guys who have gotten truck horns installed on their cars. Loud, to the point of jumping out of your socks.

You are right. The horn could best be described as "polite" but ineffective.

At www.griotsgarage.com they advertise three louder horns with sound samples. I haven't decided. The main difficulty will be the installation.

Our 350 had a "wimpy" horn too. It made you think of a Barbie Beetle (beep beep). It was embarrassing. We asked our SA about it and he said to bring it in. Turned out they had to replace one of the horns. He said there are two (high and low sounds). It's all good now.

I agree with lickem66; before looking to replace the horn, check to make sure both are working. To be fair, I just got my c300, but my c240 had two klaxons, one low, one high.

The horn is "Euro loud", there are minimum and maximum limits. Imagine Rome with louder horns! Think it is loud enough, although I have cars with louder horns.

Truck horns - people identify horns with their respective vehicles, if I heard a truck horn I would certainly look immediately for some tractor trailer bearing down on me, not a C. Likewise if one heard a meep-meep you would look for a VW Beetle. May be counterproductive safety-wise to change so radically your horn. However perhaps a pair of Fiamm Italian airhorns might be more in character for the W204.

Got any ideas how you would install them on a W204. Have always loved those Fiamm airhorns.

@Sentosa: Space is tight in the engine compartment, probably behind the bumper grill, hooking the compressor directly to the current horn wiring.

The stock horn is enclosed behind the right foglight. The eye-talian airhorns no longer have a separate compressor.

Go to the www.griotsgarage.com website a few posts back and look at them.
