How often do i bring car for service.

just bought a CPO mb c300 27000 miles on it. how often do i bring it to the dealer and have it serviced. im used to my bmw x5 and it has an indicator on the dash. will the c300 do this as well. i read the manual but im still not sure about how MB service works. i heard they were better at this compared to BMW. i hope so. thanks.

Yes your car will tell you. For example, A1 service due in 20 days.

From owning 2 MBs from 2007 and 2010. It generally requires 1 year service or 10k miles which ever comes first. Either way your car will tell you.

thank you for the reply. so i dont need to be checking the manual for what is due? i see on the maintenance booklet --->service at 2k miles(amg only), 10k miles, 20k miles, 30k miles, 40k miles, and so on. there is required service work and recommended service work. there is also a table there that shows you which car qualifies for a certain service. i hope someone could shed light on this. cause i would just bring my car there every 10k miles and get the most of my warranty. thanks you very much

well to be honest you dont get squat out of ur warranty usually. None of the regualr services are covered under warranty, they are out of pocket. Just service needs that are manufacturer problems are covered, like bulbs, broken parts that are not ur fault (ie defective) the oil changes and the like are out of pocket. I did most of mine myself, I have access to a shop, and its pretty basic if youve been working on cars. Otherwise have dealer do it, but I read on here some oil changes are 250ish in price, thats steep to me. oil and filter is less than a 100 at the auto supply

How's it going guys, this is something I've been wondering about and since it's been brought up here I might was well ask.

I've always been skeptical of 10k oil changes, how does this notification system work? What I mean is it just a dummy light that turns on at predetermined points or does it actually monitor the systems in question and tell you when you really Need an oil change and stuff?
If that is the case and I am early with all my services then I should never see the maintenance light right?

I can not be sure that this is 100% true, but when i got my message for my A service i had not driven 10,000 miles or been a year. I would take a guess and say it does monitor the systems.

in my opinion i think it is more of a timer rather than analyzing whats going on with the car. in my opinion that is.

Thanks, I have my suspicions you're right and just hoping to confirm it. I've been searching on here since I got the car and did see something about an optical sensor, but again I'm not sure?

I know talking about oil is just beating a dead horse, but I was leaning towards using royal purple. I know Mercedes says Mobil1, and Royal purple isn't on the approved list. But from when I have seen they seem to make an excellent product and if it's not really the best I think it's up there. But that is why I am trying to learn how this system works, because if it has any kind of sensors to determine things like oil changes then the system is going to be looking for specific criteria to meet in which case you should stick with what it was designed with. Even if it's something as simple as an optical sensor I'm sure the clarity would vary. I just wonder if they say to use mobil1 because it is really the best, or is it just advertising

That is useually the case, but I'm hoping somebody might know. I'll be doing all the services early anyway I just haven't decided how early yet. I guess these days with good oil 10k probably is ok

The maintenance notifier is on a fixed timer per my delaer either 1 yr or 10k miles whichever comes first. This is confirmed becasue my 07 I didn't drive much probably 2500 miles a year. But Every Oct the maintenance id came on for service A and service B a like. However on the 2010 - I purchased new in May 2010 by Nov 2010 I had to get service A done as I was at 10k miles. My Now in May my maintenance id is on again saying I need service in 1100 miles. Right now I am at 18,900 miles. So its on a fixed timer based on mileage or last time of service.

Of course if your car is actually LOW on oil or something else that is an entirely different system that will notify you of engine problems, etc... But it is not tied to the yearly maintenance indicator of the car.

Also for whoever talked about Oil not approved by MB. It will void your warranty if an engine gets messed up. Though if you are out of warranty guess it doesn't matter either way.

Also MB uses ful syn. oil no reason it can't last 10k miles or 1 yr.

Since dealer through in free 3 years worth of service when i purchsed the car, I dont have to pay for service A or B. However even if they didn't I personally prefer taking car to dealer - I heard from at least my dealer your car can actually be worth more at trade-in if you they shown you serviced your care entirely at an MB dealer rather than going to 3rd parties. Though going 3rd party does not outright void your warranty, per owners manual. You just have to maintain records of any service done by 3rd parties or personal receipts for oil, etc...

The '08 C300 is service every 13k miles or 1 year....

I'm creeping up to 60k miles right now - so far so good.

Although as someone mentioned earlier, I've been paying for light bulbs and other things out of pocket for some time, and I even have the extended warranty (the expensive covers everything one)...

*sigh*
