Vent Mount Pics - Or other creative mounting options?

I tried searching for this but couldn't find it. Could anybody post pics of their favorite mounting positions? (hehe, sorry. keep it clean!)

I know some of you have vent mounts and I'd love to see that, or anything that mounts in my line of sight. This is for my smartphone ( an HTC Evo Shift ) that i'm using for streaming audio and Nav.

Thanks!
Shane

PS. I wanted to mention this new setup of mine that's prompting this. If you have the base (Audio20) headunit and a Smartphone (Blackberry, Android, or iPhone), somebody here turned me onto a GREAT little device. Read-On if you're interested.,

For $50 you can pick-up a Bluetooth Aux Audio adapter. It's the size of a thick matchbook and it sits in your glovebox and plugs into the Aux In jack. Your smartphone connects to it for audio transmission (in addition to connecting to your headunit for the normal telecom connection).

This thing is WONDERFUL. Obviously it would work great with music stored on your phone, btu I don't ever buy music anymore. Instead, I use Pandora which has a yearly $30 subscription.

With this bluetooth device, on my Android (Evo Shift 4G) phone, this thing is amazing:

- I get in the car, start the app, put my headunit into Aux and bam, it's done. The bluetooh works. Everything works. It sounds great. No wires to hookup.

- When a call comes in, I answer it using the normal telephone buttons on my steering wheel. It pauses my music. When I hang-up the phone, it un-pauses and my music continues.

- On my phone, using my Navigation App (Usually Google Navigation or sometimes the TeleNav app), Navigation instructions are now transmitted thru my car stereo. This includes turn-by-turn and street-names and traffic and all that. When it's saying these things, it doesn't pause my music, but it mutes it, then unmutes when it's done barking directions at me.

- The various music apps (I use Pandora, but any music app for these smartphones) has a great UI that usually incluedes album artwork, large buttons for play, pause, etc (certainly best on a Touchscreen so some BlackBerries might not be as great in that respect).

- And I usually just close the lid to my screen since the screen is basically useless in Aux unless I get a call.

So the only thing I need to make this better than UMI is a good mounting solution. It'll still be no MM Package but I think i've got UMI just about beat.

If you're looking to buy this setup, you need 3 things: The Adapter itself, A Car-USB-Port charger adapter, and a Mini USB cable. (You need the last 2 items to charge it using the power jack in your glovebox).

You can get it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Rem...6237213&sr=1-1 There's a "Bundle" if you look below the main product image where it says like "Add all 3 for $55ish" -- Including shipping it'll be $64 or so (or it was for me).

But I ended up buying from Buy.com. I just added each of those items to my Buy.com cart one by one (no handy bundle link there) and I got it, shipped, for $54.

That's it!

I was going to make a dock in the space where the ashtray was (you can pull the ashtray right out) but the iphone cases make everything difficult so for the time being I ran a cable down by the side of the seat so it isn't visible if I tuck it down but it's nice because it charges the phone, outputs pandora to the AUX jack, and has iPod control via the Ipod cable.

Sport -- beautiful, thank you! I thought you were the one I remembered having a vent mount.

I did basically the same as Sport Stik but used the vent on the drivers side so my Wife wouldn't complain about me stealing it. I ran the power cord from the Aux power in the glove box through the vent pretty easy after I drilled a hole in the glove box.

I ran the 3.5mm cable from the glove box and snaked it behind and around the center console to the driver side. Pulled out the ashtray, drilled a small hole into the back of the ashtray receptacle, then snaked the 3.5mm cable through the drilled hole in the back of the ashtray receptacle. I can easily plug in my iphone with the 3.5mm cable and charger when necessary and leave it in the ashtray receptacle for minimum cable exposure or use my air vent holder. When not in use I wind up the 3.5mm cable, tuck it into the ashtray receptacle and close the ashtray door.

I installed the KUDA mount with carcomm iPhone cradle, snaked the wiring up and into the glove box to plug in the power into the cigarette lighter inside there, and one of these days plan to utilize the hidden AUX cable to connect up audio as well but I'm really in no rush as I have an iPod already.

Check it out :-)

The mount is black leather, and even though it doesn't look like it matches inside at all, thats mostly due to the flash. Matches the leather on the gear selector nicely, etc.

Looks great, perfect holder, but that sucks you can't use a case. so ridiculous, a case is a must for this unreasonably fragile piece of apple equipment.

I've seen several that mount down by the shifter like that.

The trouble is that I've taken to using my phone for Nav (I love that the turn-by-turn comes out of my stereo speakers). So I'd really need the phone up closer to my line of sight.

Yeah, I hear ya -- I just needed a good place to plop the phone for charging purposes, etc.

You know, its just me but I don't use cases - I always prefered the clean lines and design of the apple iPhones without. However, I should mention that you could still get the KUDA mount and combine it with any holder from the site, including some of the universal ones I'm sure where you can adjust the side grips, etc to hold a phone in just about any case/shape. Hope this helps.

Best,
- Eric
