Vent Mount Pics - Or other creative mounting options?
I know some of you have vent mounts and I'd love to see that, or anything that mounts in my line of sight. This is for my smartphone ( an HTC Evo Shift ) that i'm using for streaming audio and Nav.
Thanks!
Shane
PS. I wanted to mention this new setup of mine that's prompting this. If you have the base (Audio20) headunit and a Smartphone (Blackberry, Android, or iPhone), somebody here turned me onto a GREAT little device. Read-On if you're interested.,
For $50 you can pick-up a Bluetooth Aux Audio adapter. It's the size of a thick matchbook and it sits in your glovebox and plugs into the Aux In jack. Your smartphone connects to it for audio transmission (in addition to connecting to your headunit for the normal telecom connection).
This thing is WONDERFUL. Obviously it would work great with music stored on your phone, btu I don't ever buy music anymore. Instead, I use Pandora which has a yearly $30 subscription.
With this bluetooth device, on my Android (Evo Shift 4G) phone, this thing is amazing:
- I get in the car, start the app, put my headunit into Aux and bam, it's done. The bluetooh works. Everything works. It sounds great. No wires to hookup.
- When a call comes in, I answer it using the normal telephone buttons on my steering wheel. It pauses my music. When I hang-up the phone, it un-pauses and my music continues.
- On my phone, using my Navigation App (Usually Google Navigation or sometimes the TeleNav app), Navigation instructions are now transmitted thru my car stereo. This includes turn-by-turn and street-names and traffic and all that. When it's saying these things, it doesn't pause my music, but it mutes it, then unmutes when it's done barking directions at me.
- The various music apps (I use Pandora, but any music app for these smartphones) has a great UI that usually incluedes album artwork, large buttons for play, pause, etc (certainly best on a Touchscreen so some BlackBerries might not be as great in that respect).
- And I usually just close the lid to my screen since the screen is basically useless in Aux unless I get a call.
So the only thing I need to make this better than UMI is a good mounting solution. It'll still be no MM Package but I think i've got UMI just about beat.
If you're looking to buy this setup, you need 3 things: The Adapter itself, A Car-USB-Port charger adapter, and a Mini USB cable. (You need the last 2 items to charge it using the power jack in your glovebox).
You can get it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Rem...6237213&sr=1-1 There's a "Bundle" if you look below the main product image where it says like "Add all 3 for $55ish" -- Including shipping it'll be $64 or so (or it was for me).
But I ended up buying from Buy.com. I just added each of those items to my Buy.com cart one by one (no handy bundle link there) and I got it, shipped, for $54.
That's it!

Check it out :-)
The mount is black leather, and even though it doesn't look like it matches inside at all, thats mostly due to the flash. Matches the leather on the gear selector nicely, etc.

The trouble is that I've taken to using my phone for Nav (I love that the turn-by-turn comes out of my stereo speakers). So I'd really need the phone up closer to my line of sight.
Best,
