A2DP Bluetooth receiver for iPod/iPhone kit
Has anyone tried using this for their existing iPod/iPhone kit?
This would make it wireless via bluetooth so that you don't have to have your iPhone/iPod connected to your kit in the glove to play music.
I'm curious if the iPod/iPhone on the Comand controls will still work.
Here are some on eBay:

Other threads have discussed A2DP adapters with relatively positive reviews (especially regarding the ability to play Pandora, etc.). You would be losing steering wheel control of the iPod by going this route and you would also lose the charging function of the factory iPod integration.

I have the blackberry one and its awesome. But this appears to operate differently. I don't recall seeing this one before. The prior ones discusses simply use the AUX or headphone port, but this "Music Link" one connects via the apple dock. This means that it it "Possible" that is could retain the steering wheel controls. However, what we need to know first is if it uses the apple dock solely for power, or if it can also retain functions of the apple docking cable that are wired to the steering wheel.
I just found the answer:

This should retain steering wheel functions, as when he uses the remote for the stereo speaker (at about 1:14 into video), it changes the song.

Seeing this almost makes me wanna get the iPod kit. Is this possible to add into the Audio 20 unit without getting, well, "raped"?

I will take a picture for you the next time I get a chance and remember. But its really not too hard to picture. The entire A2DP transmitter apparatus is entirely in the glovebox. Its a small 1"x1" black square, one headphone jack AUX cable goes to the AUX port on the right side in the glove box, and one USB car charger goes into the car charging port (also on the right side) in the glovebox, and that is it. Then I just go into my iPhone, turn on bluetooth, have to enter the password the first time to connect (0000) and then every time after that the phone connects automatically when the transmitter turns on. (Which it turns on and off with the car as it is powered by the car charging port.

No, when you get a call it still goes through the MB handsfree system. This will vary phone to phone. But the reason why it does this specifically is because the A2DP transmitter register solely as a stereo bluetooth device, but the Mercedes handsfree system also registers as a cellular bluetooth device.

I bought a similar adapter (but it said SPRINT on mine) on eBay for $20 which worked great on my 2008. Steering wheel controls worked only for going up and down tracks. On my iPhone 4 both music and the handsfree worked at the same time.
Now, on my new 2011 it does NOT work at all for some reason

I pulled the unit and tested it on my JBL On Time unit (desktop iphone alarm unit) and it worked fine. I'm assuming it didn't work due to some firmware upgrade (I have the latest firmware).
Anyone else tried?
The unit I purchased was:

We are currently working on our own (AnyStream) to update the software to work in the latest 09 and up C and S Mercedes. Our AnyStream works in all the others we have tested just fine.
The inexpensive black one you show, we worked with that manufacturer, but it does not emulate an iPod properly and won't work in most car systems at all. Only speakers, like you have found. In order to work properly, you need the authentication chip and that makes the unit cost quit a bit more....but still worth it.

About 4 weeks, and same price as our regular AnyStream (just a software upgrade). We don't quote prices on forums, as prices change of time, and forum posts do not.

Given Cartronic's response on top, I'd wait four weeks until they verify that the software upgrade will work. Hate to pick it up only to realize that it won't work like the one that was ordered on ebay.

It works on all but the 2010.5 and up MMI+ iPod interfaces. All the regular MMI and all previous years it works fine. It seem the latest interface is not following Apple guidelines (surprise surprise).

I want to be able to use the Tune in radio app on my iphone but every time I plug it into my iPod interface in my car it will default to playing the iPod. Would this device solve this problem or is there another way of stopping it play the iPod by default?
