Anyone purchase their lip/roof spoiler off ebay?

Have any of you guys bought your lip/roof spoiler off of ebay?

I'm looking at this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PAINT...item33673186e5

Reviews for this seller seem to be pretty good.

It comes with both a PAINTED lip and roof spoiler for $156.. Pretty good price as I've seen other members paying $200 for just one of these items. I'm just strapped on cash and looking for a good deal. I also noticed the item ships from Taiwan.. Wondering if I'd have to pay import taxes for them.

If anyone has any insight on buying these items on ebay (quality, fitment, etc...) that'd be great. Or if you have a recommended seller LMK.

I bought the rear spoiler from this seller last month. Perfect fitment and color match for my wife's Palladium Silver C300. It was shipped for $75 total. Best deal on mod ever.

I bought a diffuser from a taiwan ebayer and it fit like crap. it had metal straps and had to remove the rear bumper to make it work, wasnt worth saving the 300 bucks really. took 3 hours to install, DTM style was teh ebay ad. Im very weary anymore on any taiwan crap unless u know from sumbody it fits and is good like the previous posters good experience.....

Sounds good. Got any pics? And did you have to pay import taxes/fees?

nonfatmilk,

It will delivered straight to you and you don't have to worry about paying import fees or taxes.

Ordering from overseas vendors is a hit or miss thing. You won't really know until the product arrives.

I had ordered a CF roof spoiler and 3 piece brabus type spoiler from an overseas vendor. The 3 piece spoiler came out great as far as fitment and paint quality but the CF roof spoiler didn't sit well on the rear windshield and had a slight gap in between on one side so I had to apply 2 layers of double sided tape to seal the gap.

It sounds like a good deal... You can always have it repainted if the color doesn't match your car.

I bought my spoiler based on the recommendation from this forum member and his picture:

No import tax or fee in my case.

hah I was just gonna say I got mine from a cheap spot on ebay and it's flawless. looks great, perfect paint match.

One thing though- if you used the 3m supplied primer, be careful not to put any on paint where it doesn't belong, I have a small spot where I got it further out than it needed to be and it's a slightly different color on the trunk lid in that spot. I'm curious what'll clean that off, maybe a clay bar?

I actually had this item in my eBay watch list before I read this thread. I'm Mars Red and I'm betting MB059 is harder to match than some of the other core colors. I put up pics if I try him out...

That's a solid deal if it matches!

Mind sharing some full car/side profile pics? I'm still having trouble making up my mind on the type of spoiler to get. That lister also has a trunk lip spoiler as well, but most of the pics I've found are zoomed in to just the trunk area and I want to see the whole car, even if it will be fuzzy camera phone pics. I have a Palladium Silver as well, so that is why I'm especially interested.

Do these help? Decklid from JBSpeed, roof from BMWChop. JBSpeed color match was particularly perfect, but both parts are very high quality. I can add a pure full length profile later today, if you wish.

Thank you Sportstick. Those pictures were exactly what I was looking for. The spoiler and your car looks great! I am trying to figure out if that is what the ebay item looks like though, because of the limited angles shown in their pictures. A spoiler was not what I was looking for at the moment until I saw how cheap this one was. (My primary focus right now is saving up for Eibach anti-sway bars which you convinced me of in a thread a little while back!)

No, the surface was cleaned very well, the tape on the back of the spoiler was revealed for its contribution, but the key part for a rear mounted spoiler is adding a bead of urethane (my shop uses MB urethane) for a very strong bond, and about 6-8 hours of undisturbed set time. Some here will say tape is enough, but variables for surface prep, temperature at installation, psi of force when applying, etc., can all effect the security of the bond. In my prior career, I watched as bodyside moldings applied at our plants, sourced from very professional suppliers with high level adhesives, could sometimes peel off due to a new variable (issue with adhesive mix, temp, etc.). And, sure enough, there have been reports here of spoilers applied with just tape coming loose. With the potential for a spoiler to come off at highway speeds and aim for the guy behind you, I think it is imperative to have a very strong bond, therefore, the urethane.

So I ended up buying the painted trunk lip spoiler from the seller mentioned in the OP for $67 (couldn't resist!). I noticed that the seller would alternate listings of the same items for different prices and I was able to get it for the minimum bid instead of the buy it now price of $74. Auction ended on 7/18, got shipping notice on 7/27, received in Ohio on 8/1. I installed it last night. I misplaced the primer they provided, so all I did was clean the surface with windex and put the spoiler on after it dried. How much of a difference would their primer have made? It was warm and sunny when I mounted it and I tested the bond by tugging on the spoiler pretty hard and it seemed to hold. I'll def keep an eye on it for a while, esp after the next time it rains though.
