By the way they are shaped, i believe they are to more evenly distribute the load of the spring over a lager surface area. They are round shaped like the spring on the one side and flat on the other.

I could be wrong as well.

Our MacPherson struts have integral rubber insulators (pads) on their lower perches and the bearings’ seats.

They serve to locate the spring on the strut and eliminate metal-to-metal contact. No height adjustment capability though.

You can get them from the dealer. I have a brand new set if interested. They're only $10 at the dealer though. PN A210 325 0184

MB fits one of four different thickness pads during production, contingent upon options’ weight and intended ride height.
They’re readily identifiable in situ by the nubs or **** molded into their perimeter.

210 325 01 84 = 5mm/#1
210 325 02 84 = 9mm/#2
210 325 03 84 = 13mm/#3
210 325 04 84 = 17mm/#4

Note there’s also very thin shim/insulator/pad (204 324 01 84) installed at the bottom of the springs where they seat in their arms.
I've also used 'em topside to tweak ride height and adjust corner weights.
