2012 W204 steering wheel on 08 C350
#26
>> I went to Mercedes today to pick up my car because of a tail-light issue and actually asked the Parts guy about the new wheels and whether or not they are A) interchangeable and B) are a legal commodity of interchange.
Quick and Dirty: Yes. 08-12 are interchangeable with respects to a few wiring differences. And to quickly address the gentleman that posted regarding the deployment characteristics: The cabin dimensions are of miniscule difference post deployment length of the column and angle. While most cosmetics were changed aft of the wheel (per se you were considering the wheel the forward most portion traveling toward the input shaft), the deployment rate, style, and capacity fill are near identical.
So it comes to a reiteration of a question I saw posted (a bump to an afore mentioned problem)- Have you gotten the lights to illuminate?
And also: For the paddles, did you just loop into the momentary toggles that the slap-shift uses to initiate a gear change?
Thanks and cheers.

You cannot reach that conclusion based on interior dimensions. When the vehicle went through the freshening and adopted the new 4 cylinder engine, the frontal crush characteristics of the structure changed due to a shorter engine block. There are vehicles where the 6 cylinder version gets a different NCAP star rating than does the 8 cylinder due to different abilities of the body to dissipate energy around the larger engine block. The post-refreshened car, adapted to the 4, very likely has a different crash pulse and may have either unique bags, or one compatible with both engines with the new front adaptation. The timing of the bag deployment may be specific to the crash pulse of the vehicle into which it was originally installed. This difference of milliseconds can matter and effect whether one's head engages the bag before it is fully deployed, resulting in upward force on the chin/skull (basilar skull fracture), or if late, punching right through the deflating bag. I've witnessed this kind of testing and reviewed the film of what minor variations can do. For these reasons, switching steering wheels may be OK, but should maintain the original air bag part number or a part number MB will state is compatible. What the parts guy thinks is similar is not adequate.
- The new facelift achieves a 41ms full charge activation via a 35mph differential - FRONTAL. At 94ms, driver is fully immersed.
- The post-body achieves a 43ms full charge activation at the same speed - FRONTAL. At 93ms, driver is fully immersed.

I definitely cannot defend such a claim. I am simply the messenger (so please don't shoot me). If anything, short of the tech actually going into details such as you did, he made a more generalized statement as to the feasibility. These cars are VERY advanced and personally, I see your point. I would want to see impact timings for both w204 facelifts and compare pulse differentials and program the CAN modules accordingly. Granted, many don't even want to tackle that mess, nor understand the complexities. I did however do a little bit of homework- granted these figures are by shuttering NHTSA and NCAP feeds millisecond by millisecond.

Hi all, I have just installed the new 2012 s/wheel on my 07 C280 sport W204 saloon, all functions work fine including the paddles except the lights and wanted to know if anyone knows for certain if there is a way to get the lights on the s/wheel to illuminate without also changing the column?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Is this the only way to get a smaller wheel or are there other wheels from other series?
The vehicle's sensors measure the change in vehicle velocity, resulting in a deploy/no deploy decision. However, the size, shape, and rate of inflation are characteristics of the specified air bag module. Each of those characteristics is designed with consideration to the specific vehicle's crash pulse and frontal deformation. There are more variables involved than whether or not the air bag "pops". Installing an air bag which MB does not approve for the vehicle is asking for potential injury.

Reading through the post no one seems to have answered the question, Has anyone resolved the lighting issue with respect to the illumination of the steering wheel buttons when retro fitting the 'Face Lift' steering wheel to early w204's ???

From my reading of numerous posts, it appears that the question is still unanswered. I ask again, has anyone resolved the lighting issue with respect to the illumination of the steering wheel buttons when retro fitting the 'Face Lift' steering wheel to w204's of 2008 - 2010 vintage? Please someone help me out

C Class w204 C220 CDI Avantgarde with AMG Pack
Hello guys. I'm doing the same mod and it looks awesome, but like others I have the same problem with buttons lightning. Does anyone solved this annoying problem?
Is there any way to get it working without changing the proposed unit (A2129007702)? Anyone have tried with this change?
Thanks people.

It's probably not a pin out issue as there is only 3 wires in the steering harness that plugs into the column. I assume it's transmit, receive, and ground. It can receive and transmit input from the buttons as well as the paddle shifters just on those 3 wires. I can only assume the steering column has some programming in it that's why replacing it with another model works. Like a rear sam that controls the light out put for the rear tail lights.
