gonna run you at around $1.0-$1.5K with new bag

you can get the wheel by itself off ebay (search the forum for my previous post) for around $500 sometimes

A word of caution....with the changes to the 2012 model for the new engine based on size, mounting, kinematics during impact, it is possible that the crash pulse of the vehicle may have been modified, therefore also changing the air bag deployment characteristics. I would be very careful before making the swap to determine if the part number of the new air bag is compatible with the pre-2012 car receiving it, if Mercedes-Benz will even offer that information. This is far beyond swapping out radios!!

it is the car telling the airbag when to work, not the airbag tells the car how airbag works
This same airbag is generally used on W218 CLS, W204 2012 C-class and W207 new E class, I believe different car models have different deployment characteristics, but when the car ask the bag to pop, the bag will pop.

The vehicle's sensors measure the change in vehicle velocity, resulting in a deploy/no deploy decision. However, the size, shape, and rate of inflation are characteristics of the specified air bag module. Each of those characteristics is designed with consideration to the specific vehicle's crash pulse and frontal deformation. There are more variables involved than whether or not the air bag "pops". Installing an air bag which MB does not approve for the vehicle is asking for potential injury.

you also need the new steering column for 2012 retrofit

dont forget you also need the new 2012 steering column or else your buttons wont all light up on the wheel and work

quoted from other thread:
"
Here is the part you need
A212 900 7702 (9051).
The code 9051 is color code for Black. The price is about 350€."

Ive got the 2012 steering wheel and airbag module also and am going to install it next week. I was aware that for the lighting to work that there should be a new steering column installed.

But shouldnt it just be a cable harness change that is needed? Everything else is working like buttons and shifter paddles. I would assume that the + or ground (or both)for the lighting just changed location on the harness? or is it completely different?

This +10000.

DCTMOTORSPORTS, just like Sportstick said - the SRS system is merely sending the airbag a deploy signal (stage 1 or 2).
The airbag is designed to have VERY specific characteristics that depend on the vehicle itself in a multitude of ways.
An airbag from one model of Mercedes might look completely identical, and will fit and plug into another model without triggering an SRS light. It is still very likely to have very different deployment characteristics based on the vehicle it was meant for - it could inflate faster, slower, and in different directions. Many airbag designs have been changed during crash testing because they either hurt or under-protect the test dummy. The wrong airbag might fail to properly protect you in a crash or it might snap your neck.

Your insurance company would have a field day if you had an accident and they found out about this.

Thanks for the advise, we will inform our customers about what have been mentioned above and just sell these as original Mercedes parts so customers make their own decision putting on these parts on their cars!

I love this. I hate the 3 spoke wheel that I currently have on the W204 and think the new wheels look hot.

Can anyone tell me if I can get a wheel without paddle shifters and stick it on my w204?

Thanks in advance

YES!

If I can't have a w204 4 spoke wheel, at least I want the 2012 steering wheels.

Hi all, I have just installed the new 2012 s/wheel on my 07 C280 sport W204 saloon, all functions work fine including the paddles except the lights and wanted to know if anyone knows for certain if there is a way to get the lights on the s/wheel to illuminate without also changing the column?

Thanks in advance

Pros.....I love the shape.

Cons....A little too much metal.
Leather is of a slick variety. I prefer the textured type better.
