Difference between US/Russian spec C300
Greetings,
wife is now the proud new owner of a new C300 (traded in the C250 for it) and we were having a debate about the power/specs.
Seems like the Russian C300 comes with the 3498cc engine but only putting out 252hp which seems a bit odd.
my question is a simpleone - why does the 3498cc engine put out 303hp in the C350 elsewhere and only 252hp on the C300. It would be interesting to know as I'm sure that means some untapped potential that needs to be taken care of.
Thanks in advance for your input.

2012 C350 engine is the new direct injection which increase the HP from 260ish to 303. So I guess your 2012 C300 is based on the old injection system. Is your C300 made in Asia? Maybe made in German and South Africa C-class are based on new engine?!

Car was imported through Estonian border according to the customs papers - so I am guessing it's roots are European and not Asian...
feel like I've been robbed of 50hp!!! ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
so.. I guess the next question will be how to get it back

The C350 previously had 268 HP and was 3.5 liter. The new 3.5 liter C350 has 301 HP.
Whatever you have, you shouldn't feel bad. You obviously have a great car! Enjoy it!

Ok...update...
I just visited the Mercedes Russia website.
They do seem to call the 3.5 liter a C300. I guess the reason being is the approximately 250 HP output (it said 185kW).
However, the website talks about the new direct injection system and fuel savings.
Therefore, I must conclude that you *DO* have the latest, greatest 3.5 engine! This is a very good thing.
Evidently, for some reason, they detune it, as you suggest by about 50 HP. This must help it meet some law or requirements in this market? Perhaps, there is a tax that would be more expensive if it was more than 250 HP?
Well, you have the latest, greatest, engine. I say enjoy it! After all, if it is made to create 300HP, I can only imagine how easy it is for the engine to create 250 HP. I think this is a good thing.
Of course, enthusiasts in your market might develop a way to get the full power back. Good luck, but in the meantime, there is nothing wrong, and I hope you feel good about having the newest engine! It uses less fuel than the old engines too.
Hopefully someone else will come along that knows EXACTLY how Mercedes changes the engine for this market. Or, maybe you could find a enthusiasts website in this market where people might be more knowledgeable of these particular cars.
I must say this was a very interesting thing to learn about, and I greatly appreciate you letting us know about the unique version of the engine in your market. I only wish I could have told you exactly what they do different to the engine to change it.

Great. Is it 4MATIC by chance? The reason I ask is that in the U.S. you cannot get the new 3.5 liter in 4MATIC.
I wondered if for some reason they are putting the slightly detune 3.5 in the 4Matic cars?
Never mind, just went to Finland Mercedes site. They do seem to have the 350 4matic with the full 225kW output.
Enjoy your cars. You have an impressive list. Many great cars there!

Awesome. I was really off base with that idea though. Even Canada has the new 3.5 with full 301 HP in 4MATIC option.
You must be on to something with the gasoline or some other specific market issue that requires this.
I apologize for getting you exactly back to where you started in your question. I hope someone will know more.
