W204 Remove Key Reminder

Hi, after one diagnosis, which my Mercedes dealer did, the car stopped reminding me to remove the key when I open the door (which it did before the diagnosis). Do you have any idea how I can turn it on again?

Unless your car has keyless go, it really shouldn't remind you, and if it did, it most likely was a mistake. Do you have keyless go? just putting W204 doesn't help much

Well, I have a standard key and if I leave it in the ign, with the engine off, and open a door, it sends a messages via the DIC

This isn't true. When you leave the key in the ignition module and open the door there is of course a key reminder with beep - as on all other models for decades. I do agree that it can be annoying at times.

I don't have keyless go and yes, sometimes it can be annoying. Anyway, it is not normal the dealer to tell me that my car shouldn't remind me to remove the key. I know, for sure, that it was doing it before the diagnosis and it stopped after that but they kept telling me that it was impossible...

The car is supposed to remind you if you leave the key in the ignition. Tell the dealer to reactivate it with Star. FOC

Another dopy dealer.

The ineptitude of the dealerships continues to astound me. They *always* tell you whatever is easier for them. NEVER the actual truth.

Story time!! --
I remember looking at used W204s on the MB dealers lot here in NYC a few months ago before leasing. It was absolutely hysterical and I was barely able to control myself. Each car we looked at was in worse shape than the last. They insisted that all problems would be fixed and the cars would all be CPOs. The first one we came upon was a white 2009 model. The clear coat was heavily damaged over the entire car - it was more matte than shiny. "That will buff right out." Next I noted some very large dents on the A piller (!) and the roof. Sales guy laughed at me and in his italian NYC accent said "Oh we got a kid who comes by, he gets those right out!" Then we stepped into he car. This vehicle was a lease and looked like the original owner never cleaned it - not once. I had trouble convincing myself to sit in the drivers seat. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that this could be cleaned up, but I noted that the bolts holding the front seats down were covered in orange rust. Again the sales guy hits back with "They all look like this!! I can show you a brand new S class right off the boat with rusty seat bolts!" I mentioned that the 05 I was trading in had no orange rust on the seat bolts and the sales guy decided he'd act as if he didn't hear me. This process went on with 4 different vehicles before I realized how futile this was. The vehicle with the rusted seat bolts and dented roof looked almost like it took a dip in the sea.

Thats a standard feture on every car on earth, havent found a single car that doesnt beep or do something when you leave the key in. But how would you not notice your keys not in your hand otherwise, with keyless go, I get it, but not with a standard key

Even with a standard key, people are forgetful. The beep makes sense and has for decades, as annoying as it sometimes is. Here's an idea - if you press OK on the steering wheel it should stop beeping. Someone get Mercedes to implement that idea.

Wrong and wrong. Where are you coming up with this stuff? Why are you calling it a mistake then saying it's a feature on almost every car ever built.

Have you never stopped to gather yourself before getting out of your car? Put your keys in a pocket or cupholder while you grabbed what you needed out of the car? While I have a set routine, sometimes I forget my phone, sometimes it's my wallet, and other times it's my keys. Sometimes I have all three and I'm still not sure I got everything I need.

Our E coupe is equipped with keyless go and I never even take my keys out of my pocket. If the key were to somehow lock itself in the car (Difficult since the driver's door doesn't lock manually when the door is open.) I could still open the door because of the proximity of the key.

If the regular key somehow managed to lock itself in the cabin (Again, very difficult. The trunk seems to be the usual culprit because it auto-locks if the car hasn't been unlocked before.) you would be screwed.

But then again... don't our cars come with Remote Unlock Assistance?

Outside of the US, you will find many cars that don't do this.

I assume he was referring to the key with keyless, go he never said originally in his post it was to remove it FROM THE IGNITION

And NO our cars do not have remote unlock assistance unless you paid for and maintain Mbrace and have the upgrade from the old analog system. Otherwise they send a truck out just like any other roadside service
