Thumbs down 08 C300 Sport - Blower Motor Failure

Hey guys,

i have a 2008 C300 Sport that doesn't want to pump out any hot air through the vents / defroster. Upon further investigation, it seems that the early models of this year did not have drainage holes on the blower motor which would freeze up and burn out during severe winter storms. I haven't checked the fuse for this device yet, but i do hear the motor TRYING to push out air when i turn on the vents, but unfortunately nothing is coming out!

What is involved with performing this maintenance myself? It looks like the part online is only ~200, but dealership prices are about ~600.

Has anyone performed this maintenance themselves? is there a how to hidden somewhere here?

Thanks,
Ben

You can hear the motor noise change as you change fan speeds?

There was Bulletin for this issue which needed a new cowl with some steel net to prevent ice/ snow entering in the blower. I dont know if this will cover you blower motor issue if out of warranty.

If you take off the battery cover you can see the fan just behind the batt. Give the fan a manual push and it may start by itself . Nothing to lose by trying. I don't think it has a separate fuse from the rest of the hvac

Good idea. Or let it sit in a heated garage for 1/2 day, and see if it works ( motor good), icing likely.

If you can get to the fan motor as easily, look for a connector, find ground in supply plug, and supply external 12V + gnd to the motor.

Hi All,

I have the same issue. I just pulled the battery cover off and barely touched the cage while the car was running and it took off. What do you think that would indicate? Motor failing? It has been super cold here the past couple of days but I do not see any ice or moisture in the cage compartment.

Thanks

wow, I have the EXACT same problem right now. Been like this for about 3 days now. I have an '09.

I park in my garage at night but I still have to manually tap the blower with my fingers to start it. Then if I shut off the car and re-start it I can use the heater speed buttons again and its works fine using the in-car heater options. However If I leave work at night the blower won't start again and I have to manually tap it.

Is it time for me to get a new blower motor??????

Thanks

After a couple of days of manually starting the motor, it fully sh@t the bed today. I will will run at a slow speed then grind to a halt. I did found a video on youtube where they replaced the motor and the regular. Unfortunately it was a 00 - 06 model S class. So I assume there is some slight differences. Has anyone found the parts needed? Not sure if I should swap pout both the motor and regular or just the motor? Would take it to the dealership but I find it difficult to pay 800+ when I could likely do it myself in 2 or 3 hours for about $200.00? thoughts anyone?

its possible to do this as a DYI but I would say this is a medium-level work. I have to change mine before next winter comes since it will jam again (especially in colder weather). I may have it done but like others have said its not cheap.

According to my mechanic seem like all C Class from 08 - 2011 have the same issue with blower fan. will failed either after 5 yrs or less. Hopefully you all got this replace under warranty (within 4 yrs). I got C class 300 2008 and the blower fan failed yesterday and the replacement cost me CND $650 plus taxes (part and installed) in Toronto.
Kind of pissed as this is should be recall consider so much failure rate.

Hi
I am new to the forum. I bought 2008 C350 Sport in last March. Two weeks back Cabin Blower Fan started behaving erratically, will stop working in middle of the trip and then will start back on its own. After research I think Fan needs to be changed.
Please some senior member can provide DIY information for changing the Blower Fan. Pictures will definitely help. Also can provide part number for Fan.
How are after market Fans? are they reliable or should go for OEM? Please advice.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Replaced mine, took me 2 hrs (slow novice DIYer). I bought TYC $150.00 CAD, including tax/shipping, it works great !! ..OEM BEHR would have a bit more I guess.

Dealer quote was 800 installed (650 for motor only)... Lots of cash saved !!

I had the same problem with mine ('09 c300) this morning. Will try giving the fan a nudge this evening and see what happens. It's been pretty cold, but the car is parked in the garage overnight.

Does anyone know if the blower motor (if that turns out to be dead) is covered under the CPO warranty?

Thanks

Yeap..had this happen in the Canadian Ottawa winter before. At times, pieces of leaves would come rushing out too....I think it's fixed or works okay now, been such a long time I really forget.

Had the motor changed - was cover under the CPO warranty (which expires in May - phew!)

Greetings everyone, I'm from New York and the temperature currently here is 2 degrees. My girlfriend mentioned to me that there's in air coming from the vents. This fourm was extremely helpful and solved my problem. All I had to do was remove the battery cover contaiming two clips on each side. I then had access to the blower motor. I simply gave the motor couple of spins with my fiingers and then blasted the fan. but I'm guessing I have to be replacing the motor soon?

This is exactly how I brought mine back to life. After a weekend filled with freezing rain, I wasn't getting anything through my vents when I started the car up the next day. I brought the car into the garage for a couple of hours, opened the garage door, started the vehicle and gave the blower fan a manual spin, and it took off. Make sure you dry the plastic housing you removed to get to it, as mine was quite damp.

Did this just happen to you? Mine happened in the middle of winter at -30 degrees, and the housing was wet, so it made sense. I'd be a little concerned if you had the issue now...

blower issue

Yes it was during the summer. I've been out of town for a bit. Had
a friend take care of the car when I was gone. Probably stopped working when it was cold and seized up because when I was spinning it at first it was almost like it was stuck then it became loose and worked fine.
