39k transmission service

Hi Forummers,

My C350 has just passed 40k and it's time for a transmission service. Is this a must do, I plan on keeping the car another 6-9 months?

Cheers for any thoughts or experiences.

There is a "sticky" at the top of the page discussing this as well as numerous threads.

The fact you are selling in 6-9 months turns it into a personal decision in my opinion, that you need to make on your own once you read up on the subject a little more - good luck.

Thank you for the pointer. Scat01

My thoughts are thus.
I shall be buying another MB and the dealer shall soon forget about the 500 that I paid for this service during the trade-in negotiations.
Have others ran into trouble before 50k by not committing to this service. I have rarely kept another vehicle passed 40k so do not remember this item coming up previously.
I do not wish to cause the next owner any difficulty as it has been an excellent and extremely reliable car.
I treat all my cars with great respect and carry out all maintenance works on schedule (great care of the paintwork also), will this be my downfall.
As you say it is personal I was just looking to see if others have run their car up to 50k and not faced any difficulty.

Again thank you,

I

I think you'll be fine. I bought my car with 48,000 on it, and realized it had to be done 4,000 miles later. I know horrible, but nothing I can do but hope its okay. My father has the same transmission and he had his done for the first time at 70,000. We both haven't had any problems knock on wood.

I don't think it will matter for you if you have it done, it probably will for the next owner though. Also, if you're trading it into the dealer, I guess there's a possibility they will realize and it may hurt your trade in value.

2019 GLA 250 - I am in purgatory right now...
I'd let the new owner do it and tell him about it. I went to over 50K miles before the service with no ill effects. I was all Highway milage.

Since you are trading it in to the dealer, I would like to believe they will complete the tranny service before selling the car, especially if they sell it as a CPO car...Save your money.

I have negotiated a good price on the transmission service $279 so it is booked in. This eases my conscience and I hope that the next owner shall enjoy this car as much as I have.

Again thanks,

Ian
