LED Fog Light
For those of you that have done or considering doing the fog light conversion to LED, I have some questions regarding the cutting of the honeycomb grill (that is currently around the existing round fog) to accommodate the bezel for the LED.
On my car (2008 c300 w204) I have 3 screws that hold the fog light bezel. If I understand the threads that I have read, the bezel for the 2011 c300 is the same so why do I have to cut anything? I should be able to screw out the old and screw in the new right? See pics… attached
Thanks

you see your picture of the bumper and foglight. THere is a void on one side and a little silver bumper on the other. The whole fog light needs to come out AND the screw tabs and the chunk on the side needs to be cut away. U cant tell until you get the new LED and bezels. U will then see it is sandwiched together. The LED goes into the chrome trim and then onto the front bezel, and the rear has a plate and u screw the front thru to the rear plate. The LED bezel is way thicker than the fog mesh is, it has to sit real deep in the fog hole and all that silver plastic you see around ur fog light blocks it, has to be cut. Ive done like six installs of these already, there is NO other way trust me. U also need to cut the little tab off the chrome bezel the LED goes into, the new bumers have a slit that the tab goes into to help guide it, you dont need it at all its worthless.......

depends on where your working on the car. I have a lift so I can do them from underneath now, its still tight tho. I prefer to pull the bumper off its so much easier, but then again I have a shop to work in and extra hands so its alot easier for me to do so. If you dont have a lift I recommend pulling the bumper off. The first one would have been tough for me to do without having taken it off unless I took ALOT of time to do it.....

Based on your thread title, it seemed you may think the LED replacement is a fog lamp. It is not. It does not have the pattern nor output to function effectively as a fog lamp. It helps your car be seen (as a daytime running light), and some prefer the appearance, but if you want to have an actual fog lamp, this will not satisfy that need.

the bumper is very easy to remove.. if you can't take the 6 bolts out to remove the bumper then the rest of this conversion will be really frustrating. Seeing what you're working with will help i promise, mostly during the wire up

I like the idea of the 2011 led fogs, but then I love the look of the 2010 fogs, which look very aggressive even when not lit up. Is there a way to put leds up front in addition to the 2010 fogs? Would it look strange to put two sets of leds in the more in the middle area of the bumper? There has to be someone who has tried this?

Agreed...
I am still kind of on the fence as well. I like the LED but I like the look of the fogs as well, especially when I slap in the Diamond Visions that are siting at the airport in HongKong arrrgghh

I just LOVE the aggressive look of the halogen factory fogs. They are mean looking and the chrome accents go great with the headlights. There must be a nice way to add leds while still keeping the older style fogs shown above?

Ok, great execution! That looks killer! How can I do this on a 2010 C300? Please don't say you need a new front bumper. Looking to keep it the way it is, and add the leds. That really looks awesome.

they actually do throw some light out if you have them full brightness all the time like I do. In OEM mode they do nothing for light output, depends on how u set them up........and yes you can add strips to the stock fogs using generic LED strips
