Updated COMAND software doesn't work with after-market camera?

Last Wednesday dealer installed the updated software. Reason for the new software is my Nav got stuck three times over a year. I might have hit the COMAND control by accident so it got frozen, not the software bug. That's the thing I am not 100% sure.

After the updated sofware installation, my after-market rear view camera stopped working. Today dealer technician said he tried everything but camera never worked. Since it is not from MB, no way he can make it work.

I asked him to re-install the old version, he said no way to go back, unless MB corporate gets involved. That's the bad thing about after-market.

I assume 2012 owners have the same new COMAND software, and some owners installed after-market, non-MB camera?

I've got an aftermarket Sony backup cam installed on my 2012 C300, with what I assume is the latest COMAND software, and it's working just fine. Have you dug back into the engineering mode menus and tried to turn it back on?

My SA was totally clue-free regarding aftermarket cams, so they may have just missed it.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, I'm thinking you simply have to get into the Engineering menu yourself and turn it back on since the Update resets everything back to the default. Off in this case.

Thank you all for the reply.

Yes, I checked engineering mode first and camera is turned on. There is a thing called "guide line" which I guess is the yellow and green lines shown on the sreen when car is in R. I tried both "None" and "X204". None of them made camera work.

I forgot what I did a year ago. After I turn camera on, is there another step to confirm the change?

The worst case for me is to uninstall the camera since it is not that important to me.

Somewhere in the engineering mode I saw a "Reset". Is it for resetting to factory default?

Yeesh. Sounds like a nightmare. Yes the Reset is for factory default.
First things first, did you check all connections? Make sure that it's plugged up at the front (back of head unit) and in the trunk, and that the camera is getting power.
Are you even getting a black screen/blank screen when throwing the car in reverse? If so most likely a power to the camera issue. Hopefully.

Just came back from a few miles trip. It suddenly works just fine, and I am nearly certain the noise level is lower than before. I used to see a bit noise like very very fine snow flakes. Not any more now. I wonder the new SW has got better signal processing protocol, maybe. Thought the noise was caused by my cheap camera only $10 including shipping.

It must be my random playing around the settings that made it work.

No I didn't have black screen in R when it was not working. Now I think I need to go in engineering mode menu and write down all related settings just in case so I know what to set to.

I am happy again just before the Holiday.

Man, I think after you changed the camera setting. You have to close the navi, lock the door while u stay in the vehicle, maybe wait like 5 mins. Then the camera setting will be affective. Dont quote me on this, but! I rmb I read something similar on camera install thread and I also did similar step when I installed mine. Oh well, as long as ur camera is working now. No need to worry until it stop working

I thought that too. I can't find where I saved all previous posters' writeup into one master pdf file with pictures. So I tried all combinations of random things then it started to work. Still don't remember what the last thing I tried this time.

It was the stuck Nav cursor which made the dealer install the undated software. I am not sure if we can ask dealer for the update without any Nav malfunction? I guess there will be a fee.

I talked to two dealers about my frozen Nav. None of them had customers reported this issue. Now I start to think maybe I accidentally hit the COMAND knob...
