Swear I've searched; how do you set stations on HK?

Swear I've searched; how do you set stations on HK?
I can't find it in the manual either! This should be simple! I've had the car a year, and haven't figured it out. If i go to a station (FM) and hold the button down, it goes to the previous-owner's preset station instead of overwriting. What am I not doing?

I don't have the HK system, but I can't imagine that the way to pre-set stations would be different? You're pushing the number buttons on the keypad, yes? Are you holding it down long enough? You basically hold the button until you hear a beep, at which point the desired channel will have overwritten whatever was there before....

Ha, I never paid attention to that keypad as I figured it was for phone-related functions. Ok, so I use the keypad, press a number til I hear a beep. Which menu am I in at this point? Give me the preceding steps, if any. I was going into the preset menu on the dash, selecting the station manually, and then holding the select button down, which is obviously wrong.
Also, a side question for those who have MM pack.......do playlists work with this setup? I'm trying to figure out how to mirror my ipod to the SD card

You won't be in any menu. From the radio screen you just tune to the channel you want. Hold button until it beeps. Channel is now assigned to that button.

You can use playlists with MM as I see the option in there, but I couldn't tell you the specifics as I haven't tried it.

10 stations set. I now see what I was dooing wrong; it's easier to "feel" than explain. I was going into the dash audio menu, and holding the steering wheel select button down. It only works using the console controller, apparently. The dash number pad is irrelevant it seems, just swivel to the station you want and press down on controller, while you're in the preset menu, on the appropriate line.

It is very simple. You tune to a station and then hold down the number you want to preset it to. Almost every single car I've ever been in has the radio presets set to a numbered button...
I don't see how the dash number pad is irrelevant... it is far easier IMHO to select a preset (or set it) off the numpad rather than scrolling through the menus on the steering wheel or in-dash screen. The buttons are well within your peripheral vision and the five has a little bump on it in case you need more help finding the right button.

Yep, you're doing it wrong! The number pad is far more intuitive / easier to use for setting and retrieving stations. You need to be on the radio screen - where it shows the frequency / song titles. Then after you tune to your station you hold whichever number button you want to assign it to. Hold until a beep is heard. It is now assigned. Nothing will pop up on the screen.

Yeah, I've bothered to mess with it like 3 times in a year. I guess it isn't a big deal as I got used to scanning or listening to the ipod. I'm turning into my grandparents. I always used to laugh at how the stations were never set, and they didnt bother to figure out how their new Benzes and Caddys worked. lol
