Really 10k miles before first oil change?
Unfortunatly I picked my car up in Stuttgart and they gave me a international English manual that had no service schedule in it for my C250. So I went into the cars service schedule menu and it says my first Oil change is due at 10k miles. Does anybody have any service related material or knowledge on this. 10k seems well beyond the normal time period for the cars first oil change.

I think MB uses Mobile 1 synthetic oil so it last much longer. Even with non-sythetic oil oil change is like 7500 miles if car is "normally" driven, like my daily QX4.

Ugghhhh that is way to long, If there using mobile 1 5w-30 one of the worst oils out there in the market I hope there using the 40w one of the best on the market.

In endless testing the Mobil 1 0W-40 229.5 Eurograde looks just fine at 13K miles with fleece filter. Usually shears just out of grade which is a non issue. Otherwise it's usually fit for further service.
10K mile intervals are extremely safe on 229.5 oils. These cars have large sumps & the oil charge is not heavily stressed as a result.

If you take the trouble. There are numerous 5W-30 Mobil 1's. There is nothing wrong with the 229.5 approved products. Thank god for the MB approvals process.
The initial fill "run-in" product is a 5W-30 229.5 manufactured by Shell.

Mobil1 5W-30 full synthetic with Dexos SN Plus is really an amazing motor oil. I tried it in both my Mercedes sedan and wife's GLE. It works much better than whatever 5W-40 the dealership had been putting in before. I noticed my engine heat gauge runs 1 tick mark lower that where it usually is and gets slightly better fuel economy. I do it every 7k miles. No matter how good the oil is it will still get dirty. Cars that wait 1year lose power over time.

Mercedes used FSS (Flexible Service System) in the late '90s and early 2000s, but started phasing it out in 2005 and went to fixed service intervals for all models in 2009. FSS was confusing (oil change was computed using lots of data, including oil electrical conductivity but other services were based on time or mileage). It was tough to sell pre-paid maintenance when you had no idea how many oil changes were covered. There were some lawsuits because of engine damage from extended service intervals. It was a cool idea but now it's essentially once a year or 10,000 miles.

Allow me to chime in with a different perspective. I live in a country and a city where I spend too much time in traffic. My average speed is 37 km/h only. The Mercedes Benz dealership here calls for oil changes every 5,000 km. I was very skeptical when I moved here and I wanted to stick to the 10k mile interval I used to follow in Canada with 229.5 approved oils. Well, when I left the 229.5 (Fuchs) oil here for 10,000 km (not miles), a lot of it had burnt up and some sludge had formed.
Since then, I started tracking my mileage and engine time between oil changes and that's how I came up with the 37 km/h average speed. Using the 5,000 dealership interval here and the 37 km/h average speed leads to an engine time of 130-150 hours. Based on the reading and research I've done, this is a safe number for gasoline engines. Therefore, since I spend a lot of time in traffic where the engine is running but the odometer is not, I now change oil when the engine's hours reach 150 hours; which has been on 5,000-5,500 km on average.
Obviously this is not applicable to people that drive long distances at high speeds. I'm just sharing my findings on this and interested in your feedback.

Interesting discussion ... I think the large oil capacity is a factor in long change intervals as all that oil can hold a lot of contaminants ..

I agree high capacity and high quality. I just did about 11k and I am mostly highway driving however I think 10k miles should be the limit.
