Fix Fender to quarter panel and headlight to hood spacing after finder bender?
Well, here is the post that gives you the basic information about what is going on...
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...luck-ever.html
They repaired and repainted the fender but the headlamp is on order and will be in next week.
Well, the side part of the fender has about a 1/2 cm gap that's not present on the other side. (between the fender and quarter panel.) Then on the top side of the damaged headlamp there is a slightly larger / slightly more noticeable gap than normal between the headlamp and hood. Do any of you have any experience with these sort of repairs? On this car is it pretty simple as in just adjusting a bolt? Or is this sort of repair more complicated. They said that they would adjust the fender when the new lens is being installed next week? Is this over optimism? Am I going to have to replace the fender afterall or can these spacing issues be resolved pretty easily.
Thanks in advance,
John

It isn't rocket science. It just takes a little time to make it right. Loosen, adjust, tighten, check fitment...repeat as necessary. If a body shop can't get those basics down right, you are at the wrong body shop because your damage isn't anything significant.

The hood-to-headlamp gap can easily be adjusted by the nut on the hood-side loop. My car has always had a slippery/loose nut on the passenger side so the gap would get noticeable after every couple hood closes. Had the entire loop replaced under warranty a few wks ago.

Thanks Doanster, I am taking it in next week to the dealership. The bodyshop was the MB certified one. The local MB dealer sent it there because it was there driver on pickup day that bumped it...

Okay so I took a couple of photos to show you all. I will put the normal side first, then the damaged side.
Normal headlamp spacing -

Look at the spacing between the hood and the headlamp.

Abnormal fender spacing (between quarter panel and fender.)

Photo #4 is the one that I was referring to. I don't know anything about body work so I may have the term wrong. You can see that the forward, or headlamp side, has slightly more space than the wheel side of the seam between the fender and the metal skin. I thought that part was called a quarter panel. The seam that comes from the wheel arch to the headlamp..

The quarter panel are the panels behind the rear doors. What you are talking about are called fenders, or "wings". Look like all you need to do is adjust the headlight.

I added some text to show what I mean...
Again its very minor, but if I look at it I can see the connector on the inside, and I am a bit of a perfectionist with my cars so I really want it to be right..

Turn the wheel all the way to the left, remove 3 fender well lining plugs and pull the fender lining back and loosen the bolts and adjust the bumper.

Thanks! I am taking it in to have the light replaced this week. I will let them to try to do it first. If they jack it up, I will do it then. Glad it doesn't sound like a big deal.

Adjusting the bumper mounting might take care of both your gaps. Should certainly fix your fender-to-bumper gap. If the headlight gap isn't fixed after that, then my original response regarding the hood loop should close the remaining gap.
