2013 C250: Okay to Downshift to 1st While Car is in Motion?

I know that for manual cars, it's very bad to downshift the car to 1st gear, but does this apply for the auto tranny on the 2013 C250 as well?

Yup...unless your coming to a stop and you're rolling at about 15~20mph then I wouldnt recommend downshifting to 1st. Or if you want to make a quick turn which I see as pointless unless your at the tracks. Know the limits of your engine and play within its range.

What if i'm coming to a stop and downshift to first ~less than 10 mph? I still get that sudden jolt...

Just that sometimes when i come to a red light and slow down, and then light turns green right when i'm at about 5 mph, i don't want the car to start in 2nd gear... I want it to start in 1st. I know that unless i come to a full stop, the car will stay in 2nd gear...

I would like to know this too.
But even if you downshift to first gear the car would wait RPM to go down before actually shift down (That's what I read somewhere)

Yes you are right, but nevertheless if the safe fail, you are risking to blow your transmission. Not to mention the danger and embarrassment if the 1st gear engages with the engine at low rev. and high speed. You and your passengers better be wearing seat belts!!!

If you dont want it starting in 2nd then leave it in "S" mode. Below 10mph is okay to downshift but doing so will cause an engine brake effect which isn't highly recommended. Like I said...mess around with it and adjust it to your driving. Just dont blow or trans or engine cuz I dont think warranty will cover that.

My 09 won't even let me downshift if the speed is too high

Regarding manuals, it all depends on the speed and whether you double-clutch or not. I don't come to a dead stop if I need first on a slow incline, such as after making the 90 degree turn from the street onto the hill in my driveway, but I am moving very slowly and do double-clutch to ease up on the synchros. The stick easily falls into the gear with very light pressure.
