2009 MB C230 Ticking noise?

hey guys, hows everyone doing..

I bought a 2009 MB C230 2 months ago and there is a ticking noise from engine. I didn't buy this car from actual MB dealership so I took it back to the dealership where I bought it from and told them about this ticking noise and they took this car to MB dealership and they told us that this ticking is normal. is it true? sounds like the valves are ticking or something.

Best Regards
Sandeep Sidhu

How long has the ticking been going on?
Since purchase? Or did it just begin after two months?

Should of immediately brought it back. Did it sound like that during test drive(assuming you did pre-purchase inspection)?

If not, perhaps the dealership you purchased the vehicle from filled the tank with wrong grade gas....

Not gona lie, my dad bought it and he didn't really notice any ticking noise but I noticed it right after 2 days when I drove it. It kinda gets anniying once engine warms up.. so what does this mean now? New engine or...?

My w204 C300 has a slight ticking noise. Ever since I bought the car used at 32k miles. It seems like a normal thing? I've heard the same one many C300s?

Tape it and post the noise. Are you from Surrey or Vancouver btw?

Yeah, id need to hear it. Also try and get a screw driver and a garden hose to make a poor mans mechanic stethascope to pin point where its coming from. My guess is its normal, especially if oyu hear it louder in Fast food drive throughs, where the wall actually bounces the sound back louder...which is just the physics of sound.

Frustrated ticking sound from top end of 2.5

I am from Dauphin MB, I own a 2006 C230 2.5 198000kms with a noise that sounds like a lifter. I changed them and at the time noticed all the old lifters i replaced where solid until i freed them up then they could move freely when compressing them with a pair of pliers. I thought it would have fixed the problem but no. Some times tick is none existent then wait a few minutes and its bad. I also was a ford tech until my back gave out then had to change career. I do everything myself. Change oil every 7000kms I use Lucas 5W40 every since it had 8000kms on it. This problem is really frustrating me as being a mechanic for several years and not being able to solve. The Mercedes dealers I spoke to are of no help because all they see is dollar signs. Im far from stupid and refuse to have someone just toss my money around at it. I changed the spark plugs at 135000km with NGK Platinum plugs and have noticed the rear one on the left side is fowling {looks like a build up of old burt oil}. I wrinkly the noise appears to be coming from there also. I to have a stethoscope and feel its coming from the top end{lifter} I checked oil pressure and it is at 40PSI hot idle and 80 psi at 2000 rpm. The piston slap Im familiar with is common in chevy 3.0 lt and 5.3lt and it is not like that at all. The inside of the motor was as clean as a whip when i did the lifters and very little wear and the timing guides and gears. Still no answer on the noise but I do know its not normal. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

Yeah I too have a stethoscope and its a top end rattle that seems to come and go. Cold now its quiet and it appears to have retuned after warming up. It also sound like a timing rattle when i drive. I thought maybe something to do with the variable cam timing however the noise is coming from the rear cylinder on the drivers side. I wonder if its possible to have blockage in the pool passages or something? I removed the intake to look at the two stage intake flaps or doors they seem fine.
Next step I think would be to remove cylinder head to have a look.
I just wish I could find out what the problem was for "SandeepSidhu". The earlier post.

hello I may help but you might not like it... for me I found out the rear pistons wore and have piston slap. Something that can occur when a cold engine (-40)starts and the vehicle is driven without proper warming. Not good. I ended up striping it down and seen the scores on the cylinder walls then started looking for a new engine. Double not good .. after learning the motor is worth 10-12 grand (triple not good) so I found a used engine out of a car the had 40km and went that route. I changed it and all is well now. Sorry
