What do you guys do to protect your floor mats?

What do you guys do to protect your floor mats?
In the winter I will use the heavy rubber cargo type floor mats. But what do you guys use in the summer? The clear plastic ones? Or just say heck with it and replace the MB mats every few years.

Another round of ICE
OE carpet mats for three seasons and swap them for weathertech for winter. Both kinds are still in great shape 4.5 years later, so no real need to protect either kind from normal use, it seems.

The OEM Rubbers for the winter or beach trips, OEM carpets for the summer with clear plastic square mats (about the size of rear floormats) for the wear areas on the front mats.
I wear leather soled shoes a lot, and the wear taps on the heels tend to destroy floormats or carpets quickly.
