Why not use the same size tires all around?

I have a 2012 C300 Sport. I like the car, especially the looks, but don't really care that the rear tires are bigger than the front. The only thing I don't like is it rides too harsh for me and the fact the tires don't last too long, partially because you can't rotate them. So why not put a set of Continentals on it all the same size and rotate them. Any opinions? And would you use the larger or smaller size tire all around?

Same size tires all around are fine....and then you can rotate, just like on the Luxury model. Use the front size 225/45-17 for all four. It will fit up to an 8.5" rim, which is what you have in back. Staggered tires are not why the ride is harsh...that's the suspension calibration and the particular type of tire you now have. If you are trying to improve ride quality, look at tirerack.com surveys for Grand Touring All Season and consider any of the top 5...you will see their relative merits.

Make sure you have 17X8 in the front and the rear. I don't think you want 17X8.5 in the front and 17X8 in the rear.

That's what I was thinking. If you went with 4 of the same size tires and rotation time comes, you would have 8.5 in the front.

If you went to 55s the ride would improve. I rejected the car with 45s but found the 16" 55s acceptable. The ride & length of suspension travel is the only things that in my opinion are below par with this car. Owner aged 66 years old & travelling on broken country roads.

Your wheels are different widths. When you rotate your tires they're going to charge you to dismount and mount the tires on the wheels + balancing.

Yep. You're easily looking at $100+ every time you want to rotate your tires.

You are quite correct, and I should have been more clear that this allowed tire rotation, but not tire and wheel rotation.

If he was shopping for new rims, then same size rims of 7.5 or 8" width would work at all four corners.

Sorry for making an assumption......

I use to have 235/50/R18 in my Cadillac all four, even though it came staggered with 255/ in the rear forgot if it was 35 or 40 ..

my bmw had 225/60/16 all four (AWD) but i left it stock

Does your C250 rides on 225/45-17 front 245/40-17 year like my C300 4Matic Sport i' just got ? 235/50 is just a great size overall would it fit our car ?

Would this also works for a C300 Sport 4 matic? does being 4matic prevents from going all size or it wont matter? thank you

It doesn't matter. I have an 09 4Matic and went with aftermarket wheels and 235/40/18s all the way around. I want to be able to rotate my tires and get more than 15 to 20 thousand miles out of them.

If stratman went with 4 wheels, and tires of the same size, and was able to rotate, wouldn't the handling get messed up, as the car's suspension is calibrated to work with staggered wheels?

I worry much less about suspension than the brake bias. When I went to non-staggered tires for my snows I noticed that the rear wanted to come around under hard braking more easily. Could have been the tires in general, but going to a smaller rear tire would cause a similar thing if they have the brake bias set assuming larger rear tires.

I have all four tires the same size but for the stance look I have 10mm in the front and 20mm spacers in the rear. When I do a tire rotation, just leave the spacers and move the tires. Simple.

Those of you who may have gone 225-45-17 all around. What PSI did you end up running on the tires? Thank you
