Thinking about jumping ship, opinions please
But seriously, buying any car with a salvage title is something that you DON'T want to do, unless it was like side damage or rear damage, and even then, I still wouldn't do it.
Just WHY?
Wait until you have enough for a non-salvage M3, it will probably cost you even less in the long term as you won't have to pay for BS repairs, and also, if you buy a salvage M3, plan on running it to the ground, you won't be able to sell it to a 3rd owner for more than a couple grand after you've put 5-10k on it.
And btw, if you're a cop (your signature), just want to say thanks for keeping the roads safe.

- Forget that car....any flood car should be immediately dismissed. You can love a less powerful Bimmer if it is more affordable...but you won't love all the "surprises" a flood car can produce over time.

I get it.....we all wonder about new directions, sometimes out loud. I've been tortured all afternoon by this one, and showed it to a couple of friends who encouraged bidding, but it's gone higher than I will.

To answer your question OP: The car for the price is what is attracting you, I get that. An M3 for half the price seems not so bad at first. This is similar to buying a salvaged car.... If you are going to keep it forever and never have to go through a re-sell, then is not as big of a deal as if you were to sell a year or two down the road. In this case, if you plan to sell this M3 in the near future, you may have a real hard time. (again you are paying half price here though). If you are planning to keep the car for a long time then I worry about what issues are waiting for you down the road. Electrical might be fine, or, it was under heavy water and not fine. We are talking about a highly sensitive car with respect to electrical components. You know that feeling you get when you get into an awesome car in the morning that you know is well maintained? Well in this case you will be getting into a car you know has been damaged. It wont feel right.
My thoughts are to buy an older model M3 or hang on to your benz a little longer until you find what you really want. I would pass...
Cheers,
A.
You do realize you can give honest opinions without being a complete douchenozzle? You don't have to curse or swear. You don't have to call anyone dumb or stupid. You can express yourself like a respectable human being like most everybody else on this thread. They all gave the same advice without being an asshat. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that your involvement in this conversation in in no way beneficial.
And to the OP: I would highly advise against a flooded salvage vehicle, especially a BMW performance car. Although it all depends on the type of water, the duration and the depth of which it was submerged. As everyone before me has said, it's just not worth it. Good luck OP
The OP asked a simple question in an attempt to gain information. It may very well be a stupid move to buy a flood damaged car for many, many reasons, but he was smart enough to ask others for advice first.
