Transfer Caes Leaking - $800 to fix ??

I bought my car in for an oil change and end up with a call for SA. He said my car "transfer case" is leaking. It will cost $800 to fix it.

Two months ago, I bought my car in for wheels alignment for $99 and end with a bill for $1400 for replacements of Transmission Conductor Plate ($800) and Valve Body ($500). I have most of the required maintenance done at the dealership, including "transmission flush" and now it's the transfer case leak?? What will be next? Transfer case replaces??

Is $800 for the transfer case "seal" replace worth the shot? Or should I wait or take the hit and have the transfer case change at the same time??

Please help....Thank you.

I had a worn transfer case bearing (probably $40 part) in my S550 and was told that in fact it necessitated a complete transmission replacement if the transfer case needed it.....which Mercedes went ahead and did. My SA mentioned in that case it may be possible to find an independent European car specialist somewhere to rebuild the transfer case only, but with Mercedes footing most of the bill, it was a no-brainer for me. This was at EuroMotorcars Devon, you are not far from me.

Your situation is tough to say, you've already paid in a good amount towards the transmission, that'll put you at over $2000 and the transmission is suspect at this point....I would talk to the SA if you're out of warranty about Mercedes goodwill assistance with labor, and maybe check with an independent about a transfer case rebuild, there's some good ones in southeast PA.

My C300 is currently in for the same leak. Luckily I have the CPO warranty. It seems the transfer case housing is part of the transmission housing requiring a transmission replacement. It's been in the shop for 2 weeks starting the 3rd. I'll let you know once I see what the invoice to MB says. MB did approve the replacement. Do all of these 4Matics fail at some point? Should I sell this otherwise awesome car while I can?

I don't understand how the transfer case can "leak". It is part of the transmission. So they mean you have a transmission leak.

I've not seen anyone get a "repaired" transfer case. It requires replacement of the transmission.

Do all 4MATICS (E and S and ML) have the same design as C with the Transfer Case internal to transmission?

Someone was asking about a CPO 2012 4Matic on here. Did MB make any running changes to 4MATIC system in W204, or are they all faulty?

I think - it's an EXCELLENT Deal !! If it's the transmission replacement for $800 at my dealer. I'm afraid to called and ask them. I was told that it was leaking and wet all around the sealer. If it's just to replace the sealer, then it is way over-priced.

Come to think about this transfer case leak issue.

After I got the Valve Body and Transmission Conductor Plate I thought about: What if this was all cause by we play around with the "manual-shifting."??

Did anyone done this and then the issue arise?

i had came to the same issue, the first time i went to the dealer, he said that my transfer case has a big leak around the seal. I went to AutoCotoure in NJ which is a german indie dealer and he said yes you do have that same leak, ( i went in telilng him what my issue is.)

I than took it to a local mechanic and he said that the seal is only wet but not leaking, than just had it serviced at 60k miles last week, and the SA said that everything on my car is fine, (i didnt tell him what they said before)

I guess just get diffrent opinions on your leak, before you dish out that type of money. If its a leak your just replacing the seal which will cost you less than 50$ its the labor that they rape you with.
