British attitudes to the new car seem to mirror those of local scribes.

They like it's size, styling & interior quality over the previous car.
EDIT: Local scribes who have been allowed brief driving experience say the refinement is amazing. That's what I want in a Benz.

Although it seem vaguely familiar to us Americans......
But, the real frustration about this actual topic was the mention of two brand new manual transmissions in the W205.....so, MB may have finally made a slick one, and we don't get the chance to own it!

Even the British press tore into the awful Bentley SUV. But then the Brits achieve the beautifully balanced styling of the bog standard DB9.
Yes ~ I understand that the new MT's will employ new lower friction bearings & other technologies to improve efficiency & and that a lot of work has been done on synchro & shift to address customer complaints. Work has also been done on clutch action which I've always found difficult to modulate without a bit of effort. I must say that the A Class & CLA MT's are a vast improvement & rather nice.

Yes, I agree.
But, when I hear an automotive design originates from the UK, that Bentley now renews the need to take a pause! It's as if Lucas Electrics took up exterior design!!
I still like 3 out of 4 exterior views of the W205...just not the rear/lamp areas, but also still agree with you that they will easily sell. The mini-S strategy should be quite successful for their target market.

Joseph Lucas ~ Prince of darkness. Fighting with restoring their crap on my Jag right now. Employing many strategies to have the Lucas gear look original externally but with reliable guts.
BTW ~ The Bentley stylists were sent back to the drawing board for that abortion.
My HR Manager friend at Aston Martin sent me a wonderful Xmas present to join my AM book collection. "Aston Martin 1913 to 2013" commissioned by Dr Bez. What a wonderful & thorough publication. I shall cherish it.

[QUOTE=Glyn M Ruck;5890189]I find these almost agonisingly beautiful.
Your agony could be abated after going back full time for 12 months.? !!
I will just have to put up with it as I could not face the 12 hour night shifts.
Happy New Year to All.
JC
PS. Not so sure about the W205's gas suspension. There seems to be plenty of expensive disasters in the past with this engineering. Also how is the 'feel' with the electric steering ?

Yes ~ indeed. I'm afraid I've always had a soft spot for Aston Martin. Always wanted a DB6.
I'll have steel suspension thanks. I don't like the maintenance aspect of air suspension.

I think I would more rely upon South Africa. To my knowledge, no one in SA has yet come up with anything which looks like this.......
