Still can't decide if I like it or think it's kinda douchy.

I think I would have to see it in person to decide

Does anybody here know how I can modify the OEM illuminated star kit to fit a 2007 CLS-550? I've been to the dealer, but they tell me there is no kit for my car, only newer models. I thought the star medallion on these cars are pretty much the same diameter. My belief is that it should be possible to modify an illuminated star kit intended for another model and make it fit my 2007 CLS. I have no idea where to start or who to ask... I WANT ONE OF THESE, GHETTO LOOKING OR NOT! :-)

The Star I installed in my 95 SL320 was a little larger then the original. I had to modify my grille to make it fit. I have no idea what the 07 CLS looks like or if you need to modify your grille to make it fit. The Star I ordered has a outside diameter of the Ring of 7 1/4 inches. The inside diameter of the star that actually slips into the grille is aprox: a hair less then 7 inches..I hope this helps you. This star will work all the time if you hook it up to the parking lights. You do not have to have a special wiring harness with it. It has only 2 wires coming out of it.

Thank you for the information. It is very helpful. Are all the illuminated star assemblies the same diameter? I see that there are kits specified for certain designated models, but perhaps the wiring accessories may differ if hooked up as intended. What part # did you get for the star, or does it not matter? Thanks in advance!

I believe the Stars come in different sizes...this Star does not have the extra wiring harness that makes it a whole lot more expensive then the others. This is the part number for it 166 817 0316 you can get it off Ebay. If you get it, before you open it up take measurements and make sure you can install it, I don't think they will take it back once it's taken out of the plastic bag. Also, when you install it be VERY careful with the Plastic Chrome ring because the tabs on it are extremely Fragile and will break easily. Good Luck.

What is the approximate diameter of the illuminated star assembly on the vehicle pictured at the top of this thread? I'm looking to get one to mod out a 2007 CLS 550. The stock CLS star emblem is 6.5 inches. This other gentleman indicated his star was over 7 inches.

I've made a few of those for CLA and GLs. I can make them for any model but need the actual emblem to prepare off of. You can see pics in the CLA and GL sections I posted here.

Wait what?

Has anyone confirmed that this won't work on a pre-facelift C300? I have a 2011 C300 and I just purchased a full-time kit from keenanmotors4311 on Ebay.

The kit includes:

207-817-04-16 - Star
207-820-00-00 - Electrical harness
207-820-02-04 - Electrical cable with fuse holder

My car year is listed as compatible and I intend on following the Mercedes install guide posted by capt_paul.

Thumbs up Success!!!

Ok, I installed my FULL TIME illuminated Star this weekend in my cold *** garage.

Those two rear SAM screws are a pain to remove/replace without the correct tools.

You need a 1/4 inch compact ratcheting bit driver because there isn't much space near those rear screws.

I made my own tool using (below):

Insert the bit into the wrench and put some tape on both ends of the bit. The tape will keep it from falling out of the wrench. I lost two bits before I got smart.

ratcheting wrench and 2 inch T-20 bit.

Those back screws added 2 hours to my install and I had to keep running to Home Depot to buy new torx bits because my fat fingers kept dropping them down the engine compartment.

The star looks good, but I didn't realize it was only lit when the engine is turned on.

The star does not light up when the doors are locked/unlocked.

I will fix that later.

Illuminated star has two different verions

Here's a quick video of mine after the fabrication work.

I installed the 2nd gen, FULL TIME illuminated star kit using the Mercedes Benz provided installation instructions and parts.

see post #87 https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w204/533270-illuminated-star-fitted-4.html#post6084089

Sadly, this method only provides power when the car is running.

This weekend I will tap a fuse, (someone mentioned fuse #23) in the SAM to provide power when the doors are locked/unlocked and also when the car is running.

Nah dont worry man their not gonna take the time to pull you over for that especially since they come standard for some of the newer models now the only time they would actually pull you over was if it was a crazy color like red or green something out of the ordinary

Just hook it up directly to the parking lights or whatever circuit you want it powered on at the same time. Maybe the Daytime running lights? If you have the little module that came with the stock one, you probably need to bypass that.
