Randomly cannot throttle past 2500RPM
My 2008 C300 will randomly (like once every week or so) make a shifting noise and I couldnt throttle past 2500 RPM (which is fun when crossing intersections). When this happens I get no lights except that D C/S gets un-selected on the screen (while the car still can drive). A restart of the engine usually resolves the issue temporarily.
This happens regardless of C/S settings and I've reset my ECU twice to no avail.

Sounds like the throttle position sensor is on the way out. I believe the 2500 rpm is the fail safe default to be able to get the car moving to a safe location vs. getting stuck.

Because of the gear selection missing (as someone noted), I doubt it is your throttle position sensor (which is otherwise the best guess). Sounds like some other electrical gremlin. Needs to be diagnosed at the dealer, or someone with star.

Whoa, that sounds like overkill, unless they had diagnosed a bad valve body. Did they tell you why they had to replace the valve body? Also, can you tell us if your car had the trans fluid changed at the 40k mile interval.

I bought the car used (after 40k) so I have absolutely no idea if they changed the fluid, but they did change the fluid during the repair.

Your vehicle was going into limp mode, which limit rpm and allow 1 gear. Hense the name!
Could be a faulty shift solenoid or TPS. Shift solenoid can be replaced individually but you have to take the valve body off on W204 to get any of them off. So likely said screw it, its warranty R&R as a unit haha
