Swapped to FL steering wheel and paddle shifters are working

I finally got to fully install my steering wheel today (since my first airbag had a broken connector) on my 2010 and low and behold the paddle shifter works! My car didn't come with paddle shifters. Test drove it also just to make sure. I've read a few steering wheel swap thread and this is news to me. Unless I missed something? Either way I'm pretty happy. It's still day time so I can't tell till sunset if the steering wheel buttons are lit up. If a DIY is necessary I will create one. Let me know. But this is a pretty easy swap.

UPDATE: Someone with 2007 CDI w204 saloon also has his paddles working

Interesting.

Was it hard to swap wheels?

Did you disconnect the battery? Any error codes after?

Thanks

Gonna write a DIY but it's really easy and yes disconnecting the battery is a must to prevent errors.

Very nice! I was looking at an '09 C350 fully loaded but I really liked the feel and look of the inside of the 2012 & up. I would've definitely got the '09 if I thought about the possibility of swapping the steering wheel.

That's pretty cool the paddle shifters work. I was wondering what it would take to add them.

I know I already had the assumption that I needed to re program them based on all the thread I've read. But I guess everyone upgrades to the c63 steering so that may not be plug n play?

I read this other thread before but I didn't pay any attention to the post since he has a 2007 CDI w204 saloon but his paddles are also working. So this is another good sign

Np. Lots of confusion going around with this mod so this info definitely helps.

Yes definitely better than the old one. Since I have silver trims it matches up well IMO. Also steering now feels more connected to the road probably due to the smaller diameter. The old one felt a little loose. Thicker steering feels better as well. Feels like I'm driving a different, better car.

Not yet. I'm in the process of gathering funds to get star tool so I can do it myself. The indi I took it to did not know how to do it and he was going to charge me $150. I would rather use that money on the tool since there are other things I want to do. But I will fix it eventually.

So you have concluded it is a programming issue?? Are you certain? Im in the process of buying a wheel and would love for it to work as designed. Mine is out of a W204 sans paddles, so I wonder if?? Also which is the right air bag for me to buy, is there a part number floating around? I bought the D shaped wheel, as seen in your op. Thanks for ur help!

I'm not 100% certain but someone mentioned here that they had theirs programmed in.

Below is the airbag you want to get if you bought the flat bottom steering or the C63 version. There are others on ebay but make sure it doesn't say airbag on the front and should be completely blank.

Everything is just plug and play. I paid $365 with shipping for the wheel. To be honest the light doesn't bother me much anymore. But I love driving my car more because of the new steering wheel. Makes a huge difference for me.

I just returned a loaner, a GLK350 and I was amazed how light the steering felt. To be honest, the first day driving it felt a little weird. My steering wheel felt heavy for the first day and now I'm use to it again.

Does the steering feel lighter ?
