Yes, steering wheel is from an S-Class, you cannot use the silver buttons or the silver frame.
Ordered from my Mercedes Dealer
Use 099-464-13-00 (from the GLE63 AMG), it has heating and lane keep assist programmed in, so it will work in all steering wheels.

What could be the problem? Car is a 2008 w204 with 4 spoke factory wheel.
Did you contact Chris? What did he say?

I've sent him a mail yesterday but no answer yet. However, I didn't have time to swap back to my factory wheel and column. So I had to drive it anyway, then I got the ESP, Tire pressure monitor and Cruise control SPEEDTRONIC error as well as the Front left airbag error.
Did some searching and it seems maybe the clock spring is broken.
But the thing is, was it broken from the start, as I immediately got the airbag error after reconnecting the battery and putting the key in? And none of the buttons worked. It says W212 FL on the column, I assume thats the one i should have for this mod.

Here's a picture of them. Mounted on the car atm.

I did installation without unplug car battery, because I have tool to clear error codes and I need to check the column.
With key removed, if you remove and install back the airbag, you should not get airbag error.
Without airbag and key insert, of course you will have airbag error, just clear it.

So, try make sure the column connection is good first,
the yellow plug inside the column, check all pins are good,
after plugged in, make sure it is plugged completely.
Even with wrong column, you should still have airbag signal, and airbag error should gone after you clear by scan tool.

You stuff looks good to me,
I believe Chris tested it before ship.

I think I didn't center the clock spring properly. That's why I now have the ESP and Cruise ctrl errors, probably.
But it doesn't explain why the horn and buttons didn't work from the start, and the airbag error, I checked the connections and looked at the pins. I even re-did the installation without success.

You have scan tool, so no need to disconnect car battery, and airbag won't expose during plug in.

First remove car key and remove column,
install just the new column, (not install steering wheel)
insert key turn to position 1,
test turn signal and wiper switch !
use tool read angle sensor live data, see if you can get angle reading.... <-- most important!

I have tried some wrong column, turn signal and wiper also work.

if you done this, we can move on.

Try borrow one, or buy one, it is about USD200 tool you should have for DIY.
Once you have trigger airbag error, it will Not gone!
ESP error too, once it is here, it will last forever until you clear it.

Anyway, after you tested turn signal is working, remove key.
just try put the steering wheel without airbag,
turn key 1 again. see if the OK button working.

I will try, but can't I blow the airbag if i'm messing with it while the battery is on?

A45 steering wheel finally installed

So after about 6 months or so, my A45 steering wheel is finally installed. I bought the wheel and airbag locally and the facelifted clockspring from Chris the Swede.

Had some shipping issues in the beginning as the package was flagged at customs. Second time around using regular postal the package arrived with no issues.

When I originally went to install the clockspring everything worked until I turned the wheel left. After discussing it with Chris, it was decided the clockspring needed to be zero'd out. So after a few weeks, I finally took my car into a local shop that had the hardware to check the angle. Sure enough, the clockspring was off by alot. Luckily, I never turned the wheel too fast or violently so I was able to not break anything inside. Zero'd out the clockspring and installed the wheel and everything is working with the exception of the paddle shifters, I don't think my car is capable of utilizing them so I need to see if I can find a metal shop to make me some paddle deletes.

I'm having some trouble and need input.

I have a 2010 C350 Sport and bought a steering wheel from a 2011 E350 Sport with paddle shifters. In short both cars are pre-facelift. The wires from the paddle shifters plugged right into the back of the air bag and everything was plug and play. Airbag is a little tight on the steering wheel but not a big deal.

Problem is the paddle shifters don't work. I'm not sure where to proceed from here.

Cool My steering wheel swap

Hi all. This thread inspired me to swap my truck steering wheel to a beautiful flat bottom one lol. I would like to thank the thread starter for providing the easy step by step instructions which made the process much quicker and easier. I did have to swap the internals of the steering wheels for the buttons to work. Also, my car did not have flappy paddles before but now they do . Here are the before and after pictures..

Did you get the paddles working in the end?

Bringing an old post up.. Did you ever get the paddles working? I have them on my existing steering wheel
but I don’t want to buy the upgraded one, so the chip swap then not being able to use the paddles.

cheers

HELP!!!

I think the nut is starting to strip. Found it this way. Looks like someone used an improper tool.

Q. Should I replace it?

I can't get this off. Even with a breaker bar. CAN ANYONE HELP??

Someone must have used a freakiin' air gun. I see signs of bolt wear.

So what I did was I got my dad to pull the 3 foot long breaker bar while I was holding and pushing down the socket end. It popped off easy. It's tricky because there lock-tight on the bolt . Once off it's easy to do the rest.

I've already pulled something in my shoulder. My main concern is NOT to break the steering column lock.

But I'll be damned because this is like a bank vault.

How long it take to come off??

I worked on hundreds of wheels and this is my advice ....
Just use an impact gun. IF you don't, you run the risk of bending the steering wheel (or wrecking your shoulder). Have someone hold the wheel (with 2 hands) such that it is NOT resting on the steering lock and then use the impact. I have seen some that needed a good 1/2" impact gun to come off.

Cheers,
Chris
