need correct OEM battery model
Hi guys,
My battery died and roadside came out. They did not have the correct model battery. Guy states "chooses a bigger or smaller one, one is stronger and one is weaker." Yeah right. Guy then adds, i just i stalled this on the last call, whoops!" Really?
I took pictures of mine and got to thinking that mine may have been replaced by previous owner and not be the correct OEM size
2009 c300 4matic sport.
I can not find info about this in the manual or online, only third party wholesale sites. This is a picture of what is in my battery tray (made in South Africa) and the one he tried to install (made in Mexico)
Currently installed
what he tried to install and i rejected

I just checked my user manual, and unfortunately there are no specs in there. Are you asking for these because you're looking for an aftermarket battery? Otherwise, you can just give your VIN to your local MB dealer and they'll give you the correct one. I paid approximately $240 for mine, tax in. In the US, I am guessing it's about $180 at the dealer.

I want OEM with the mercedes stamp. I'm asking what people have in their engine bay because the installer tried to put a different spec battery, a larger and stronger one, and now i am wondering whether his or mine js for a different model.
The service department opens tommorow, they want $200. For anyone needing a battery always call mercede's emergency roadside it is less than the dealer.

I'm not sure about the specs, unfortunately. Wife's out with the Benz atm, and won't be back until later tonight. Check these forums, multiple people have said their batteries have lasted 7-10 years, I'm willing to bet it's the original battery and I'd be surprised if your battery in the 2009 was ever replaced. I replaced the one in my 2008 this spring and it's the longest a battery has lasted in any vehicle I've owned.
That's interesting - so the roadside assistance folks, who will come to you, can sell you a battery for less than what the dealer is asking for?

Yes they sell it for less. I've read it here and capitlized on the idea, well not yet -.- i am unsure but i think the labor is subsidized and the battery is all you pay for this route, but they are tightening up about it.
I've done a lot of research here and elsewhere and all I see are people speculating that our battery can be 4-5 years, or last longer based on previous generation w203s . However you and I have the two first generation w204s, and yours failed last spring and mine this summer so as of now our benchmark is around 6-7 years. I am curious though.
If when your wife is home i would really appreciate if you can checl
And see which of the two
Images you have in your c300

I was able to find this picture from a thread on this forum, take a look (post #13):
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...0-15-mins.html
From the looks of it, the specs match the ones in your picture (12v 84Ah 100A), but the batteries look different. The battery in mine also looks like the one in the post I attached.
The second picture in your post is probably the stronger one the roadside guy offered you. I don't know enough about batteries to tell you if your alternator will work harder to keep that one topped off, benefits or potential issues. For that reason, and since everything in my car is OEM, I just asked for a direct OEM replacement.

I have a C350, I'm not sure if our batteries are the same. If she's not home too late, I sure will. Without being able to confirm the specs, I can tell you for sure, mine does indeed look just like the one in the link I posted, and not like the one in your picture (with the white stickers).

Thanks for the info! So the white sticker version attached above (my battery) matches the specs of the one shown in post 13 above. I'll guess the different color stickers means different manufacturers, mine was made in South Africa. I will try and get my exact but they may not have it.
Does anyone know about batteries? Can anyone comment if a jump
To the larger size sttached above would have adverse effects on my car? The installer said he did not know, and neither did i, so i denied service.
Can bigger mean better in this case?

I've attached two pictures from my owner's manual, with jump starting instructions. There's no mention of the other battery's specs, other than it can't exceed 12V.
Hope this helps!

FYI, the original battery was rated at 84 amp/hours with 700 cranking amps, the new replacement battery shown in second picture is 100amp/hours with 760 cranking amps.
The larger rated battery is definitely okay to use as it will give more power to the starter initially and the 100amp/hour rating will give you more drain capacity, say when you are listening to the radio with the doors wide open and the nav system running, do you understand. Personally I run a 1000 cranking amp Optima battery in a four cyl Tiburon, no issues and always starts even at -40C.

A 100A/Hours is fine. Just make sure it is a AGM ( Absorbed Glass Mat) type not a flooded acid. The AGM are the OEM & better suit modern cars with a heavier electrical draw.
Mine is a Varta OEM made in Germany.

Johnny,
As far as I know , I have not seen otherwise. Mine is an almost 8 year old AGM . Lots last over 10 years.
Good luck,
Johnny Carsy.

Carsy, if you are running an 8 year old battery, you may consider saving some more cash for an alternator also.
Sooner more than later your battery will leave you stranded, always at the worst time.
Leave your headlights on for 10 minutes turn on your nav or leave the doors open for 5 minutes more, then try to start your car.

We live in different climates young fella . Very mild here all year round . The car goes out once a week so little useage. I am also of Scottish descent.
Usually my batteries give a little prior warning of being on the way out .I have yet to be stranded by a battery in 51 years of motoring but I suppose there is always a first time.
Critter ,Your advice is welcome. Thank you.
