Transmission Fluid Serviced, new blue fluid.

So I've reached 79k miles on my 2011 C300. I don't think the previous owner changed the fluid at 39k, as it is only required every 79k on the newer transmissions that take the new fluid.
I wanted to do the fluid change myself but am not confident with measuring the correct amount with an external thermometer.
So off to the dealer. I specifically asked if they drained the torque converter and my SA stated they do when there's one present. I told him that I am sure mine has one and to please drain it.

Initial quote $530. This was apparently with 6L of fluid. After drain, took another 3L, plus washer and bolt plug for torque converter. Seeing as each fluid is $29, that push the price upwards to $600ish..
SA said he would meet me half way with the additional cost since he did not anticipate the extra fluids.
So the service out the door, $591 here in Sacramento California. I was lucky enough to have a $100 holiday gift certificate from MB that I applied to the invoice bringing my price down to $491

Does this cost around the same for everyone else?

ATS 9 Transmission Service Type 9.................$210.80
1x 222-277-20-00 GEAR OIL FILTER.................$42.25
1x 220-271-03-80 GASKET.............................$23.63

2x 000-988-08-52 PERMANENT MAGNET............$11.56
1x 8901 PARTS WASH....................................$5.95
1x 310 AUTO TRANS COND. (ATC)....................$15.99
1x 000000-008155 BULB.................................$10.85 - not needed for transmission service (my bulb was out lol)

Congrats on getting a full 9L service. Are you perhaps confused about something? Unless you have a 2013+ 7G Tronic Plus your interval is still 39k miles regardless what the dealer claim they used as fluid. So your next one is at 79k+39k=118k and not 79k+79k=158k.

I was under the impression that all 722.9 Plus transmissions used the blue fluid, which has "reduced friction" under the data card, and that the fluid change on those transmissions were 125KM / 77k-ish miles.
Got the info from this thread.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w204/437187-new-236-15-fluid-722-9-7g-tronic-plus-imminent-2.html

Are you saying even if my transmission is the newer one that takes the 236.15 fluid, I still change it every 39k because it's not a 2013+ model?

From what I've read from the more knowledgeable people in this forum, only the fluid for the 2013+ 7G Tronic Plus will give you 79k, that fluid is not compatible with the 7G Tronic e.g. 2008-2012.

I am sure someone will confirm soon enough.

722.9 Plus transmission uses 236.15 blue fluid which is not reverse compatible with older transmissions. It is a far lighter viscosity.
If I read this correctly, 236.14 is for 7G Tronic 39k interval and 236.15 for 7G Tronic Plus 79k interval. 236.15 is not compatible with 7G Tronic.

So they might have used the new 236.14 blue fluid, but interval is still 39k, if I am correct of course.

No the 236.14 is the red fluid used in the 7G tronic. The 236.15 is the blue that is used in the 7G tronic plus.
From my understanding when reading that thread that is stickied by knowledgeable members and the article also states it, the new 236.15 fluid is only required to be changed every 125,000km. That it's used in the 7G Tronic plus transmissions, which was introduced in 2010.

Now, I don't know if the old 7G Tronic can take the new fluid. But for sure, the new 7G Tronic Plus transmission cannot take the old fluid.

The confusing part now is whether or not the 125,000km only applies to 7G Tronic Plus transmissions that have the start/stop feature (which I believe is on the 2013+ models).
The article states it applies to the 7G Tronic Plus transmissions though, so I assume it applies to the ones that do not have start/stop feature as well.
I know I have the 7G Tronic Plus because the transmission pan is also different compared to the old 7G Tronic. Anyways, I don't think the dealer would be lying to me about the longer change interval, as it would benefit them if I came back more often, right?

The old 7G Tronic cannot take the new 236.15 fluid and vice versa, Plus cannot take 236.14. the 125k KM/78k Miles definitely applies to the 2013+ Plus, while the old 7G can only go 39k miles regardless of fluid. That also complies with the manual that states that C Class with M272 engine (2008-2012) transmission service is at 40k while those with M276 (2013+ ECO) service is at 70k. Hopefully Glyn can drop in and verify.

While the transmission was getting serviced, I had approx a litre of new blue mixed with 7 litre old was as it was fully drained and could not get it instantly
Hope it would be okay ??

You really need to post the year and model of your car (E350?). If the "old" was blue and the "new" was blue, you're OK. If the "old" was red and the "new" was blue, you've got problems. I would have it towed to the nearest shop and try to get it flushed. You cannot mix old and new.

Run your VIN on www.lastvin.com and see if it has Code A89 REDUCED-FRICTION.

Hi....I just bought a 2017 GLE 350 from a dealership in Orlando Florida. And it seemed like it wasn't shifting properly. So I had my mechanic setup to do a fluid flush, when he discovered it has the red fluid in it. I have him setup to do a full fluid swap next week. But I was wanting to know if it will hurt the car if I drive it until then
