Angry C300 CD Player - I'm about to get rid of the whole car!

My 2010 C300 is becoming a serious money pit.

Ok, CD player quit working, went to Mercedes and it's not covered under extended warrantly (last year is only power train), they want to replace the entire COMAND unit - we are talking $2000+.

I went to a local European Car repair shop, they sourced one for me from wrecking yard for around $275 and installed easily (there's a long pin number written on the back). Everything appears to work fine, CD goes in/out, radio presets are there, but NO sound. Everything looks in order, but no sound. Do I need to get this reprogrammed somehow? All fuses are good. I'm at my wits end cause I'm so fed up with this, I'm about to buy a ghetto plaster and plunk it on the front seat.

Any help would be appreciated, as I don't even listen to CD's, but without the CD player functioning, nothing else on the radio works (annoying beeping sound every 10 seconds telling me CD player does't work).

Thanks in advance!

You didn't complain to the repair shop?

Could be fault on their end maybe not wiring something...

Repair shop told me "they'd get the unit into the car", but once it was in they insisted to get paid, since I asked them to install it but didn't clarify that I wanted it working. That's a whole 'nother story.

I have a PIN number from the unit that came from the donor car, but I have no clue where and how to enter this code. I'm so fed up with this car, it's really turning me away from Mercedes. Sorry to vent, just driving around with no music for a month is driving me crazy and I don't see a solution in sight.

You'll get issues like that with most factory radios now. Although most cars will prompt for code entry when needed.

I think I'm close, but I have no idea where to enter this PIN? It doesn't show up on the radio prompting me or anything, everything looks great, but no sound. I disconnected battery thinking it may do something. No avail.

I think there's a DAS hookup or some diagnostic tool out there, Mercedes dealer won't touch my car with this radio now. Just not sure what to do at this point.

Do you have an indie shop you could try?

Does it tune in to stations?

I did take it to an indy shop, and they were the ones that were actually less helpful than the dealer (if that's possible).

Everything works fine, just no sound. The speakers were fine before, so I'm at a loss. I think it has to do with some anti-theft PIN or something, I just don't know where to enter this.

Are they a German shop and do they have the proper software for coding the system if needed?

Is it in the hidden engineering menu?

I tried looking for threads on how to diy install a comand system, couldnt find anything, but you might want to search for threads that may have similar applications so then you might come across the correct way to wire it/etc. Also the private shop thing was a bum, how can they only put it in but not install it? I'd be just as po'd.

Ok, I FOUND the engineering menu in via the COMAND unit, you have to hold down:

hangup, 1, # all simultanesouly, brings up a menu and my heart is going pitter patter cause I think I'm close.

However, through all the options in the engineeering menu, I don't see a single place to enter the pin for the CD player.

This has got to be the most over engineering piece of equipment I've ever come across, it's just a simple CD player at the end of the day. Crazy.

So I still am at a loss as to where to enter the PIN for the radio (which I have from the donor car). Any ideas out there?

Thanks for the search suggestion, but I can't find a thing out there for this 2010 C300, I took it to the dealer and they have dollar signs in their eyes, they want to swap out the entire COMAND unit, MSRP $5,100, since it's not covered under warranty.

All for a stupid CD player that is acting up and making the entire audio system inoperable (beeps every 5 seconds telling me the CD player isn't working).

Just can't figure out where to enter the PIN for this new radio, it doesn't prompt me on the COMAND unit, and I just get no sound.
