Is there a way to enable manual shift mode on non-amg?
Hi there,
Just bought a 2012 c180 7g-tronic which is non-amg. Car has eco and sport shift modes. Is there a way (a software trick or something else) to enable the manual shift mode just like the one that amgs have?

Yes, there is a way but it is very hard finding someone to do the job. Do you have paddle shift levers? I don't imagine it would be that great to use with the shift knob.
I located a shop that claims to be able to do the coding but haven't gotten around to getting over there. Plus they want to keep the car a day or two.

If anyone knows how to get M mode activated on a facelift model please let me know. I'm able to do it on pre-facelift models but haven't found a straightforward way of doing it with the 7g-tronic+ transmissions, their variant coding seems to be completely different.

Paddles will function without any coding but not the same way they do in AMG models. You just get gear limit with, the same as with the shift knob, but it is still very useful and much easy to use than the knob.

I thought you could do it by pushing the gear lever to the left or right in Drive.

Euro-spec C300 Sport trans mode button has Comfort-Sport-Manual plus paddle shifters standard. However, the 7G transmission has a lot of slippage built-in and found that Manual shifting was always disappointing. Commanded upshifts are so slow that the engine revs beyond the torque band before changing, and downshifts, when they eventually occur, do not provide practically any engine braking. So Manual paddle-shifting? Meh. Won't be any different from using the console shifter. Haven't used Manual or the paddles in years.

The one good use of the paddles in this setup is the hold downshift feature. It will drop the car to the gear which has the most power for braking or acceleration. It's great for highway passing as it eliminates the throttle lag.
My new car has near instant shifting paddles but it doesn't do the hold power downshift which I miss a little bit.

To activate "M" mode, need to do coding to gear box ECU.
The proper way is perform SCN coding add AMG sport package to ECU,
but it need official account to doing online coding,
means that only dealer or someone who has the access can do it, and this is a bit costly.
Dealer will only tell you that is not possible or they refuse to do that.
So will need to find the workshop which is expert in Mercedes.
And some said that it also can be done Offline.
But that is many variant in coding and need to pick manually,
then try on error see which code work with the gearbox.
Wrong coding turns out unable to shift up or down or gearbox not working properly.

Downshift provide significant engine brake to me.
Just that even in M, computer still in control to gear shift and there is some delay.
Compare with real Manual transmission it is totally piece of toy.
