Remote start
I'm sure this has been discussed before but tech changes fast so with winter coming I was wondering if there is a good remote starter that is compatible with our cars that will cause no issues (mine is a 2013 c300)? Thanks.

I'm going to read up on it but looks like it's a good system.

What is the point of remote start ? Surely it must have safety implications ie confined spaces ?

Remote start is only good for when you live in the snow belt and park your car outside. Like you, I personally wouldn't have a use for it either since my cars will always be garaged.

I live in Canada and don't even have one. My remote starter is me getting into my car and starting it. I park in a garage though and just outdoors while at work so walking out to warm my car up on a -25C day does not bother me and I can plug in my block heater. I am use this sort of thing from mid December to the end of February.
Guy down the block remote starts his truck every day. Spring, summer, fall, whatever. Wakes me up every morning at 6 am with his loud crappy truck. No resonators like every other guy with a big truck and a little dick around my parts.

I never had a remote start before, always warmed my cars myself but they were also all manuals. I'm thinking about one as my wife drives it and my son who is only 20mo old goes with her, and another on the way. I don't like the idea of my son being cold in my car, and manually warming up the car these days just won't happen. Plus I want to warm up the engine before it's driven.

They are nice to have but that fella down the block with the giant truck abuses the power.

FYI, sugar won't dissolve in gas lol . Some people gotta compensate, probably the only thing that's stayed with him. Though our car is too quiet for my taste, I know it can sound real good. But yah, I just don't want my kids to be cold in the car even though the c300 warms up pretty quick. Sigh, I bought it, she drives it, and I drive the jalopnic. Lmao, life...

Lol, eh, she wants a new jeep. But money is tight lol. She has an 03 liberty I bought for her but now it might need a tranny. Going to drop the pan and clean the valve body and replace the filter. If the fluid is good hopefully that fixes it..

It also so just happens that I bought her a Remote Starter for with the same thoughts about my son being cold... Now I need one and they're so expensive.

Lol, yah. It is expensive, but my family being comfortable makes it worth it. One can always make up the money spent. Family is number one!

You guys don't know what cold is.
Come up to the Canadian Prairies in Mid January.
It can get to -30 C some days during Jan and Feb. Add some wind and it tears your face off.

Oh, I do know.. upstate ny is like that where I was for 3yrs. My motive is not for me, it's for my family. My wife doesn't handle the cold well as I'll never accept my son and baby on the way being cold for 600 bucks.

My wife just got a '14 ML350 with Keyless Go. We were surprised how many '14's did not have that feature. But you can't beat the factory remote start in my '13 Durango R/T. Down here in Deplorable Country it means just as much to cool your car down a little as it does to warm it up in the Frozen North. The Merc does have a feature that will lower all the windows and turn on the ventilation fan in the seats as you approach the car. In one week of searching out 200 miles on the old MB CPO site we only found 2 '14's with ventilated seats.

Yeah, fellow Texan here and can completely concur on the usefulness of cooling the vehicle down. The wife's Tahoe has remote start and it's so nice to get that big *** entire cooled down a bit before actually getting into it. I wish my benz had it. oh well, the next one will

Going from a Subaru with remote start (even on the 5 speed) to no remote start has been kind of a bummer. Even though I park in the garage, it's after work that would be nice for warming or cooling. And the Subie was completely safe, one of the only cars on the road that you can remote start a manual with absolute safely if you know what your doing.
