Trying a new toy out. I'm hoping less retapping of the screen and might be more accurate for smaller on screen selection. Specially when driving at the same time. Plus I have short arms

I originally just wanted a small touchpad I can put somewhere close to the center arm rest to emulate the new touch pad on the new mercedes line but haven't found one yet.

 

can you use a USB hub on the main USB port so that you can attach multiple USB devices? I haven't tried

 

I can't see why not. It's an OTG usb port.

Maybe I will try one of these touch pads too.

I have an issue with the 10,25" large screen for W212 from 2010. when using android, I only have voice on front left speaker. Has anyone experienced similar issue? I am using AUX MMI cable (which came along with the unit) and at one point I had voice on all speakers and without changing anything it is back to one speaker (left front) and nothing I can do to make it play on all speakers. When using OEM all speakers works.

Also, I have an issue with boot, sometime I have the black screen (with the car logo on lane) on the right side and I need to touch the screen before the Mercedes Benz startup logo starts.

How does audio switching work ? I can play videos but get no sound. Also when calls come in I only hear the audio from the drivers left speaker.

 

Since you have your phone connected to the screen, I am assuming you have all of this figured out, but if not, take a look at post #21 on this thread - https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...installed.html

Within the menu (on the screens shown in the post above) - If you set "Connection" to BT, then audio is supposed to stream via BT (the screen should be connected to your car/COMAND via BT). Similarly, if you set Connection to Aux, then you should have connected the 3.5mm audio-cable (that came with the screen) to your AUX-In port. Assuming you set this up correctly, then when you start playing any audio or video with audio, on the screen, then the screen is - supposed to - automatically switch you over to the correct audio source (BT or Aux), and the audio is -supposed to - play via your car speakers.

With the above said, what I've noticed is that BT almost never works. My experiences include (a) does not switch over automatically (I get a pop-up that says its switching audio, but nothing really happens). This is especially bad when I have been streaming audio via BT from my phone, and then I turn on Waze on the screen. The screen is supposed to switch over BT source, but it does not. (b) supposedly switches over, but I get no audio. Happens all the time with Spotify. To fix it, I need to launch one of the apps that came with the screen (usually YouTube), and then the audio starts working. Then I switch back to Spotify, and the audio continues to work (c) BT takes forever. Even on boot, it feels like BT takes about 2-3 minutes to activate. I have therefore set my "Connection" to Aux. When I get the pop-up that says 'automatically switching audio' (or some such), I hit "Manual" and then change the audio source on the COMAND screen. Audio usually plays without any issue.....BUUUUT...... now you have to touch the screen every time you want to skip a song. Yes; incredibly frustrating.

@aznmode - any suggestions / instructions on best practices for moving apps to sd-card? or phone-storage (for some reason it looks like I have tons of space in the partition called "phone storage"???)
I'm sick and tired of the "no space available" messages from Google Play, and having to manually uninstall a bunch of apps that I really need, just so I can update the rest. If relevant, I have rooted with Kingroot (which is still installed on the screen). I have tried moving apps with apps2SD but its not much help. What else can I do? Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

 

Audio switching only works for me on initial start up of the system. If I go back to stock radio and try to play youtube it won't autoswitch anymore till I restart my car and the android has to restart. Same issue with BT calls coming out only on the left side speaker. I have not found any solution to either problems.

 

You may have to use more than 1 app to move apps to SD. I know in the settings, some apps you can move to phone storage (12gb). Which I believe what app2SD is doing but if I'm not mistaken (since I dont use app2SD) it doesn't move everything. Some of the app need to stay in internal storage (1gb). I use MoveapptoSDcard and it too only moves some of the data to phone storage (12gb). But I noticed, if I use Foldermount, there are still some apps I can move. The other option is go into your settings and delete the misc and/or cache. This has to be done once in a while.

Last method, which is going to be more complicated, involves swapping external sd card as internal storage. Such as the method below.

If you use spotify, make sure you move the cache folder to the SD card, you dont need root for this. Every song you stream on spotify gets cached, even if you dont download it, and it adds up quickly, for me its 500mb/week.

 

I have the exact same problem on my 2008 w204. It is like there is no CAN-BUS feedback from the climate control unit. I have been scratching my head for several months on this issue. Even replaced the AC controls. Problem still exists. Contacted my seller in china, his best solution was to "hide the AC controls so they are not seen". I wonder if it has something to do with the car rather than the unit.

 

On my W204 2010 doesn't have this issue. Only if I have the heat set to highest then it'll say HI. If I turn it down to lowest it show LO. In between it shows degrees in Celsius.

 

I think it has a different can bus protocol on the oldest models or something like that. Dont know if it helps to try a newer climate control.

 

Anyone getting a lot of static from their speakers after installing this? I got mine from eBay and mines a bit weird. I don't even need to plug the aux cable into the aux port in the glove box and I can still stream bluetooth..

 

No never.

You can stream via BT without aux but as you can here it dont sound the best then.

 

Quite interested in this, however, i am only an iPhone user. I am simple i want to use spotify, waze, google maps and for bluetooth calls. I have been looking but am unable to find any videos of this working with iPhone on CarPlay. Can anyone who uses an iPhone post a video of its use with car play and spotty use? Greatly appreciate any response.

 

I see. So then to run a decent BT setup I would still need to use my old BT adapter in between the aux cord from the unit and the aux input in the glovebox?

 

Yes..But much better to use the aux cable.

 

I understand but prefer not too. This is only a temporary solution until the seller gets back to me with why this thing won't correct the time. Once this is fixed and I can get to the play store I'm going to be downloading spotify directly. I hate having to navigate my phone while driving to change songs.

 

I too only use those apps and for that I have zero issues with the head unit. Waze does work a lot better than google maps though, much much faster. If you plan to play the latest video games on your car's head unit, then this is not for you, but if all you really need it for is live maps, spotify, youtube and google voice search, then its perfect for that.

I'm not an iPhone user, so I don't have much experience with Carplay, but I have hooked up my dad's iPhone phone and Carplay did work just fine, albeit a little stretched out. However maybe there is a fix for that, I didn't play with it beyond the 30 seconds I've hooked it up.

Yesterday I installed the screen on my car.

Seems to work ok. Still have to test it and use it more time to know if there are any issues.

Backup camera also working fine.

One question maybe someone can help me.

Is there a way to control Iphone playlists directly from the screen? I mean, any app ore something to navigate my plaslists on my BT connnected Iphone?

You're wifi icon is on? If so what's your speed? Also try uninatall / reinstalling waze.
