2013 C350 3.5 V6 Petrol - Best oil to use?
It was recommended that I use Castrol Edge 5w-40.
Is this correct or is there something better?
The next service is due soon so it shouldn't be a problem but I was just wondering what oil to use if needed.
Generally, the important information is MB229.5 and the type of oil (0w-40, 0w-30, 5w-40, 5w30). The brand is not that important for topping up but I always use the same oil brand for topping up.

Our garage now has a 1998 SLK230 Kompressor with 44k miles. I've changed the oil twice since owning it (bought it in 2015 with 34k miles and it's one of the first dozen or so imported to the US, having been ordered in 1995 & I have the docs to prove it) and have used Mobil 1 0W40 (which I believe was the oil in the engine from the factory and some people have said the factory MB oil is actually Mobil 1, but I really don't know). It's not driven much and the oil is still clean from last Fall's oil change. Our 2013 C300 4Matic (Sport version) has the M276 engine and I didn't know what type of oil was in it (as I didn't know what oil was in all of our Benzes when purchased). So, after a bit of research, I stumbled upon FCP Euro, who sells Lubri Moly synthetic oil. It's a bit more expensive than Mobil 1 (Lubri Moly likely more money due to it being from Germany), but the specs are very good and the reports of its use are top notch. So, I tried it. It will be changed every 5k miles with a Mann or Hengst felt filter. I cannot find a let filter for the SLK230 engine, so it will continue to get the Mann paper version.
I use a Topsider oil change system which works well. An older version just plain wore out as the can would no longer hold the pressure so I purchased a new one. Works great and no muss or fuss in getting underneath the car to remove the belly pan, slide a drain pan underneath and then remove the drain plug, then wait for it to stop dripping and then button it all back up. With the Topsider, following the directions with the system removes more oil than what can be drained via the drain plug since there are some small ridges which block some oil from being drained out via the plug. I usually go through the pressurization a couple of times to get it all out, which is not a problem. I have more than enough time to replace the oil filter and check out other things under the hood while the oil is being sucked out into the can.
