driver assist has been deleted

2013 c class c204 on board computer has lost the driver assist package. my son played around with the dash computer on my new car, he did a factory reset and although it told him , that the driver assist would be deleted or lost, he thought he was doing me a favor. the car is so new i cant remember what was there and what wasn't, but i know some options arn't there now and when reversing, the screen dosen't show the image of the small car anymore. the hazard sign doesn't flash on the wing mirror either! how can i get them back?

...would that be the little coffee cup icon that shows up (ostensibly) with "impaired" driving?

When you say they were "deleted" are you sure you don't mean he just disabled them in the menu options? Unless he is using some sophisticated factory software I doubt he deleted them completely off the car.

If it is the latter, look in the owner's manual and it will explain how to enable/disable a number of features in the menu.

no. they were deleted. apparently there was a warning message after selecting FACTORY RESET but went ahead anyways. there were some features that have disappeared, including the blind spot assist that flashes hazard warning signal in the blind spot of the wing mirror; a small image of the car in the reverse camera view when reversing; the adaptive cruise control is gone too!!!

Ask the dealer, although like the others I don't believe that's possible...

Manufacturers don't make it easy where owners can mess with stuff like that. Otherwise, there would be a ton of owners going to the dealer because they innocently hit the wrong button.

If your son was just scrolling through the different menus that can come up in the dash display by pressing buttons on the steering wheel he did not "delete" anything. He just probably turned those features off. If that is the case it is very easy to enable them once again. Have you looked in the owner's manual on how to access the features you say were deleted?

yep, your right. i asked and they knew straight away what i was talking about. apparently all the cars have standard software, then if you get optional extra like 'brake assist, blind spot assist, disstronic etc' they install additional software. BUT, if you FACTORY RESET, it wipes the additional stuff and simply keeps the standard. was hoping someone may be able to give some clues as to enable it again, but it seems like it has been deleted from the software, which is pretty unfair in my opinion!

called them; apparently they do a lot; they knew exactly what i was asking before i had finished asking. they are not turned off; they are deleted. still hoping someone could help me avoid the $180 an hour to reinstall though!

I don't think there's any other way, otherwise the software would just be floating around and people would be adding it.

Go figure that. I learned something today.

What is the procedure to even access that?

thank you so much for your enlightening input, it is always so reassuring in life when somebody is willing to spend a little of their time so selfishly to help others on forums such this one which is there to HELP others and not just simply to insult them. your addition to this thread is so valuable.

On page 210 of my owner manual (I have a 2012 C300) it talks about factory settings, but it references only the Day Lights function. It does not say anything about if you do that it deletes any function/features. I see you are in New Zealand and maybe it is configured different over there. Just seems so hard to believe that by one click of something so easily accessed you can wipe out various features /options like that. I would think that if so we would see a lot of posts for this very thing.

When you go into the Settings menu is there anything listed like Lights, Vehicle or Convenience anymore? And if they are there and you click on them, does anything come up? Or any the various menus gone now?

As a person who writes software I find this highly improbable. No serious coder would put a delete feature where a user could easily press it. Reset =/= Delete.

I'm with you there. Just doesn't pass the smell test to me. If it was that easy to actually delete things like that there would be a ton of posts on here about that. Typically there would be some kind of hidden menu where you could only access by doing specific things and not just something available in a typical user menu. Plus, I would think there would be something about that in the owner's manual with some kind of warning. Hope the original poster can provide details once he goes to the dealer or can provide a step by step on what menu was used to access that.
